vRS orange oil light won't go out

Featured Replies

Light came on yesterday suggesting it was low on oil - which it was.

Topped up but light won't go out.

Oil pressure is good and VAG.COM shows no faults - apart from the usual 17705 and 17745 (that I am working on as a seperate entity)

I've had a search around but there doesn't seem to be any diffinitive answers.

Anybody have any ideas why the light may still be on.

The only thing I can think of is the pick up tube being sludged up as a result of running low. If this is the case is it an easy fix?

Thanks.

Depends on your mechanical ability sump off then undo pickup pipe clean and replace simple but the pickup pipes aren't really easily cleaned so a new one would be the job, but i think if this was blocked then the pressure light would be on not the level.

How long have you been driving with level because i lost the engine in my vrs and after i replaced it with a new one the oil pressure light still came on for 300 km after the swap, like it was stored but cleared after and there was no fault for it on vag com

Hia. Thanks for the answer.

It is deffinately the orange level light that is on. (Only came on last night when the OH came from work) I topped the oil up this morning so it had done about 10 miles with the low level. It comes on with the ignition, then goes off and comes straight back on as you start the engine.

According to VAG.co the pressure is OK, although I don't know where it takes the reading from.

Did your engine go after the level light came on or the pressure?

The orange oil light on the dash is not level but pressure.

The orange light is for level and red with an audible warning for pressure. When the Octavia first came out we were told that if you opened and closed the bonnet the light would go out and it would re-check itself within 100 miles, if still low the light would come on. What is the state of the bonnet switch?, if it hasn't recorded that the bonnet has been opened it may not re-check the oil level.

Hmmmm, the manual for my 2003 vRS estate says the oil light is for pressure.

It's the same graphic on the dash, just that the colour is different for level (LED technology I suppose). Usually red for very important - act now, orange as a lower priority warning and green as a normal operation.

Could it be the switch itself being faulty?

Cheers for the replies.

So far I think it may be the microswitch on the bonnet catch, assuming the cpu needs to see the circuit complete to turn the light off.

It deffinately clicks open and closed but I a not too sure if it is making circuit.

I'll give it a test tommorow night when it is back here, assuming it gets back without going bang
