Clio 182 Trophy??? Shall i???

Recommended Posts

Looked at the V6, nice car but got my MPS instead. MPS is less of a track car but more of a all round practical car and quicket in a straight line.

The 182 Trophy looks to be a really good little car, considered the Older type R but basically just as good as eachother around a track and the clio is rarer.

French cars...ummmmm...will see how i get on after a year of ownership i guess.

another mate is curently trying to sell his 240 TT for another clio v6

Ah, but have you driven a V6 Clio?? They're brilliant, look the part too! I went to Silverstone a couple of weeks ago for Renault Race Day, have been a few times before too and its brilliant, makes you want to get one!

My friend has a 172, quite heavily mod'd and its forever breaking down, they're brilliant to drive just one piece of advice, if you have a heavy right foot, don't mod it!

But I'd go for it!

isnt heavy right foot criteria for owning a car like this:D If i wanted a toy car the V6 would be great but no boot, 2 seats etc just a toy!

One of the reasons i am looking at the clio is that you have to spend ££££££ on performance mods to get any noticable performance gain, so is a diss- incentive. (I think that is a word!) Which is great for my wallet. New zorst and that is pretty much it me thinks.

i would regard myself as a bit of an expert on these cars lol i have owned a mk1 172 mk2 172 a mk2 172 cup and 182. i absolutely loved the cars for what they were a pocket rocket with very good spec levels but imao the build quality is crappy and over time the engines get tappety regardles of servicing, dash boards rattle and the big big problem is the aftercare service from the renault dealerships. great for doing a deal but expensive of costs of repairing and the service people treat you with about as much respect as a donkey on blackpool front!!! the cambelt change is a killer at least 500 from renault if not more plus the service on top!!!!! but the car itself is brilliant and the trophy for example is THE best they ever did before the change of model the suspension set up the exclusiveness of the car i.e i think only 1,000 entered england if that the speedline wheels in anthractite and cup spoiler and recaros..jesus i wanted that car so bad when it came out but with my baby boy there is no room and three doors are a bit of a no no!!! good luck with the hunt mate go for it buddy if you can get a minter pal..oh by the way i would change the 182 exhaust because it rots terrible and also does not sit straight on alot of models orbisoud are very good for these and blue flame are good as well...ktec racing are good for seeing any mods required and hillpower are amazing as well for mods...imao i would leave it standard as you just cant without loads of money get any extra power out of these engines and the top speed aint great at 134mph!!! anything you want to no pal let me know as i have loads of connections still on the cliosport forum as i was a member for about 7 years

I had one up my ar## the other night round the twistys i couldnt shift it but as soon as 70 past it was bye bye. I was surprised he could stay with my up 70 as mines not standard but they are very light and it had a exhaust system and filter so probably 190ish. Overall i was impressed.

Stu have you not thought about an ibiza cupra 1.8T maybe not as good at handling but more options for modding?

Want to steer clear of a car with loads of modding options to be honest as i will only be tempted and i dont want to be! Thin k a zorst and remap costing 700 all in will boost power to approx193 ish so will settle for that.

Not a fan of the ibiza, the clio is perfect handling wise just want little more power, cant have it all i guess!

Cheers CLIDGVRS, I am sure you will recieve a few PM's!

no problems buddy whatever i can help with.... the inlet manifold match, sports cat and system with a bmc cda NOT A VIPER!! and remap will see you get the most gains buddy

What do you think K-tecracing map, yozzasport cat back and manifold. WHat do you think it will be pushing then, Map claims 195 PS so approx 190BHP and with the other mods 195BHP or is that optamistic?

Cheers

I've had two renaults a Scenic and a clo 1.6 8v. Both totally boring but no probs with reliability. Know a guy in France has an old shaped Twingo..Great little car, totally neglected to 120 Kilometers blew head gasket. Now repared and as good as ever (still totally neglected!!) Don't like French cars myself But a Cup is a different story!!

I've had a Trophy and i loved it.

A great car, handles very very, easy to drive fast needs to be taken by the scruff of the neck though.

The engine is ver harsh, the driving position leaves a lot to be desired.

I would have another one though.

But my DC5 is everything the Trophy wasn't to me

invinitely better engine and gearbox, better seats, great driving position, great brakes and very individual.

If you've got 10K to spend then you'd find a good DC5.
