Tidying hubs and first time with scratch x

Featured Replies

I gave the VRS a good going over on Saturday before GTI International. As it was raining on and off i though I may as well tackle the rusty brake hubs which look sh1te. I only had Hammerite hammered silver in the garage so I though I'd give it a go.

Apart from finding 3 tyres punctured (:rolleyes:) the wheels came up a treat with Megs wheel cleaner followed by a quick claying and wax with some spare stuff lying about.

I should have taken some before shots but forgot!

However, what I did find was one of the wheels a lot more dirty than the others. There seemed to be a tar-ey substance which was on the inner rim of the alloy and there was a lot more carbon deposits in the exposed gaps which wouldn't come off even with wonderwheels? Anyone got any ideas of a product to use?

Once the rain had faded I managed to go over the car with some Gold class liquid wax and attack a small scratch on the rear 1/4 with Megs scratch X. I really didn't think it would be that effective but I was pleasantly surprised :)

Good work............

Autosmart Tradis is what you need for your wheel problem no doubt as that rips most thigs off...........

How was GTI International then?

Thanks for the heads up I'll have a look for that. I have some Dichloromethane based carbon remover that I was going to spot test over the weekend!

Sunday was good and really windy:rolleyes: Some nice cars in the show and shine. Some of the reds were really awesome. Gregs Gold golf always draws a crowd:)

Dual post:rolleyes:

I like what you've done with the wheel hubs. Looks very neat. I wonder what it'd look like if they were painted to match either a) bodywork or B) calipers?

Funny you should mention it as I tried one first in smooth black. I didn't like it in all honesty as it just looked dark like the rust before it. The silver at least looks like the brake area is clean.

I'm sure smooth would look better so maybe next time when funds allow :D

Nice work
