As with every new program version AVG 8 is in some ways more irritating than the old 7.5.

One of the annoying novelties is the drop down notification in the program's main menu that cannot be permanently closed.

But it can!

To get rid of it, change name of 2 files in the "AVG8" folder located in "Program Files" (probably c:\program files\avg\avg8 ).

Change avgresf.dll to> avgresf.dll.bak

Change avgmwdef_us.mht to> avgmwdef_us.mht.bak

Nice to know, but does this renaming have any other effects (potentially problematic?)

I can't leave guarantees - but it seems to behave as it did before, no warnings indicating components not working properly, it updates OK and so on.
