Oil service reset

Recommended Posts

Hi.

Got a quick question, my car is telling me that I'm due an oil service in 27 days time. That's unlikely to happen as my last booking for my ongoing oil sensor failure warnings was cancelled by text!

Is there a way to reset it, to stop its constant nagging, because gawd knows when we're going to come out of lock down and I'll be able to get an appointment with the garage to do both oil change & sensor failure work.

Thanks..

Stay safe.

The only way to clear it is to reset it.

I'd be tempted to put up with the beep at startup to allow the car to keep track of how far over the service interval you go.

There is a way to do it, I've done it on mine, pressing the trip button or something whilst turning the ignition on........

Numerous videos on You tube etc....

I think this one worked for me......

Have a Virtual Cockpit. I'll have to find an alternative way as it doesn't work like that.

Wonder if there's something in infotainment system or OBD11?

This worked on my 2018 Leon with virtual cockpit, hopefully similar on the Octavia -

That has done it. Youre a hero!

It'll keep it quiet until the garages reopen for servicing/maintenance and repair work.

Many Thanks Broona. 😁

This one might be a good one to 📌 for reference.

You're most welcome, glad it worked for you.

Mine came up needing a service a few weeks before it was due to go back at the end of a lease, so it saved me a couple of hundred quid, lol! 👍

Get a Mann or OEM oil filter and a new sump plug then DIY it with the right oil?

I wouldn’t reset it without doing the change, even if not at the main dealer.

Oops... I'm not expecting the garage to reopen for at least another 2-3 months and it says about 4300 miles to go anyway as an alternative.

I may try our local independent if it's open, they're a VW Group specialist, I might even get them to try and rectify the other ongoing problems with the oil sensors saying high temperature and other glitches Garland's seem unable to eradicate.

It can wait unit the middle of next month, when my pay rise and back pay comes in.

Hi, just a quick one. My 2018 Octavia is telling me I'm getting close (10 days) to the inspection date but still around 3 months till my oil service.

Any idea why the inspection and oil service intervals are out of whack? Or is that intentional?

Thanks!

M

I noticed my inspection went from 2 years to oil at 2/mileage and inspection at one at the last dealer service.

As Skoda put their service prices up substantially, I won’t be revisiting if a local specialist is cheaper.

If you’re out of warranty and assuming your doing limited miles, then I would think you can generally ignore the inspection and wait for the oil in the current situation.

If you’re doing the bare minimum at every service that may change things depending on filter age etc.

Thanks for your reply.

I bought my car from an Arnold Clark at the end of last year. It was serviced in July 19, due for a other service by Arnold Clark in July this year (Corona dependant).

It's a May 2018 build so should have warranty from Skoda for another full year.  But I'm worried if I don't have this inspection done it may invalidate it?

Try to contact the dealer, if not register your request with Skoda CS?

Less than a year since your last service means AC didn’t do an inspection or if they did it wasn’t set on the car.

Do you have the receipt for the last service and does it mention inspection?

Skoda and Arnold Clark dealers are closed in my area.

I've spoken with Skoda customer services and straight away the person said that they weren't certain but they believe the inspection and service should be done at the same time but something in the car may be insisting an inspection is to be carried out - I didn't think this was a thing!

I do have a receipt and it doesn't have an mention of an inspection. Just a service.

I would imagine they just did a basic service and only reset the oil change indicator.

If your car is now 2 years old is will be due a service.

Did Skoda give any guidance of what to do in the event your car needs the service?

I have admit that I got the oil/inspection service done when things started to look a little grim elsewhere, as even though I had 1500 miles/30 days left, I didn't want to take the chance or find i needed a special tool to drain the oil filter on the mk3 should I DIY.

Yeah I think you're right.

I didn't realise the inspection was 2 years - this ties up as it is a May 2018 build. So yeah they've just done an oil change which is due in July. So I guess it all ties up. I've no choice but to wait until they open so I assume they would do a goodwill if a warranty issue comes up. But if one didz I couldn't even take it to a garage lol!

No, they were really unhelpful to be honest. They gave me a number of a Skoda dealer which they assured me was open - it wasn't. So I think we just have to sit tight.

I bought my Octavia as an Approved Used car and confirmed that it was put on a long life service schedule (or whatever it is called now) by the previous owner meaning the next service wouldn’t be due until approx June 2021.

I was a bit surprised when I physically checked the trip computer myself to see that it was scheduled for June 2020.

A quick call to the dealer confirmed that I was on a long life service plan and that the trip computer just hadn’t been reset correctly.

As I had a bit of a commute to collect the car I’m a bit reluctant to have to travel all that way to get it reset but may not have a choice as my other closest Skoda dealerships won’t do it as they weren’t the ones that serviced it (something about them being liable for the servicing).

Fingers crossed one of the above methods will work on my Mk3 FL.

Good luck trying to find a garage that's open.

There's no reason for them to be closed, they're on the list of outlets allowed to be open during the current situation.

My car has been bugging me for the last month for an oil change - it has only done around 8k since the last one so not too bothered.

I had it booked in with our local dealer who I bought the car off - it is under warranty and I have two services included with the purchase so reluctant to get it done elsewhere.  They cancelled a couple of days before the service because of Covid.

I'll just have to put up with a "bing" four times a day ....

So - here is the thing with the free services given with the purchase of most new/used approved Skoda's.  These "services" are actually financial products held with Skoda/VW Finance.  Interesting thing is that you can use those services at any VW group or 'approved' dealership across the UK.  I purchased my car in Aberdeen and it is being serviced in Edinburgh (both are Skoda dealers).  As long as your garage is known by Skoda/VW finance and that approved OEM parts are used on the service, you can get your vehicle serviced anywhere you want.  The only difference being that in your electronic service book, it might say "Skoda Dealer = No".

  • 2 months later...

I had this issue, variable service done but, service set to fixed, so 11 months on it's saying service due in 30 days. Spoke to dealer and "eventually" found out that even if if that interval is reset, the ECU monitors the cars driving style. mileage and oil condition to estimate when a new service is due, normally around 18,000 - 20,000 miles or 18-20 months.

To reset

Hold dash reset trip button in with ignition off

Turn ignition on

Shows "Reset Service Interval"

Press trip reset twice - "quite quickly"

Dash shows service interval set for 365 days

Sorted 🙂

I have this at the moment. Oil change message on trip screen keeps coming up but it definitely isn't due a change.

53500 miles, 63 Plate, last service was exactly a year ago so I wouldn't have thought it would have come on according to the every 2 year recommended oil change or every 20,000 miles.

Booked it in for a service which will clear it but never expected to see it come on in its current circumstances.

It is amazing how one small message and beep everytime you start your car/ turn off your car can drive you so INSANE.
