Anyone changed a 1.4mpi cam chain?

Featured Replies

As the title says really. Do you know if its alot of work? I've been linked the genuine replacement kits on ebay for around £36, just wondering how many hours it would take an experienced/qualified mechanic to change the parts?

Many thanks,, 2012:D

Yes, not me but do a search in the Felicia section - it's the same job!

I had two dealers refuse to do it, apparantley it's real hard work because it is unusually short

Short? ... The chain itself or the time needed to change the chain?

I've seen it done, in reality it's about 3 to 4 hours work. The timing cover and sump have to come off. £36 for the timing chain and 2 gears sounds a bit over the top, the ones for the Felicia are around £20/£25, you will need to factor in a timing cover gasket £2.50, a crankshaft pulley oil seal £11, can't remember if there is a sump gasket, Felicia one is around £10.

Why do you need to change it?, they all rattle.
