Plastic trim - can it be changed?

Featured Replies

I don't like the silver coloured plastic trim on the Mk2 Fabia 3 - such as round the air vents. It seems from the brochures that the Mk2 Fabia 1 has black trim instead of the silver. If this is so, maybe one could downgrade to something better by ordering the parts. If not, can these be easily removed and painted? What paint should one use? I presume a painted finish on the interior door handles would not be durable enough. Anyone tried this?

Lets make a barter  I have the black frames...

AFAIK the frames are glued or siliconed to the dash, I've found a pic...

Are they identical on the Roomster?

Oh. I can imagine that getting messy - the frames splitting and the glue oozing. Maybe they should be painted in situ (although I haven't decided what shade of situ).

In situ is better IMO... ;)

I find the silver trim around the vents reflects in the side windows just in the area where I look at the mirrors, on both sides of the car, and it is very distracting. Anyone yet found the right sort of paint to paint over the silver, or is it to be black plastic tape( yuk!). I would imagine the wrong sort of paint could affect the plastic.

Surely model paint would be the ticket in that case. You won't be short of coulours, and if you get acrylic paint, and it'll wash off with water if you make a mistake... :)

Or how about getting one of those nasty decor trim kits that stick over the top, not wonderful, but much better than brush painting them.

Or you could always airbrush them ..................... but just think of all the masking up you will have to do!

Just take them out. Silicon isn't that bad

You can get new vents, as we have had 2 customers want it doing.

Here I am. My name is Marco I joined few minues ago, hello everybody.

I've something to ask about this plastic trim on the right side. When I drive on the highway, let's say above 100 kmH, (i think it is 55mph) i hear a noise that seems to be coming from inside the trim, it's like something is inside and bumps but i'm not sure because when i turn the vent on at max speed with the car at low speed this noise does not appear.

It appears only when I drive high speed.

My sister ownes a FabiaII estate and she says that her was the same but at a certain point this noise disappeared while mine persists.

I would like to open and look inside but i think I could make irreversible damage.

It's like something is moving inside bumping on the plastic. It's not a question of life, when i turn the radio on I don't hear it, and in any case I will ask the dealer at first occasion but, youn know, it's the kind of thing that on a new car makes you crazy, mostly because you don't know what exactley is.

Maybe this noise is coming from some elswhere, my question is does anybody noticed something like that?.
