Engine Management light and glow plug light

Featured Replies

Hi all, first post, bought octavia 2 days ago....Its a 2000 1.9 Tdi Ambiente Estate

When i turn on the ignition i do not see an engine management light come on/off as i would expect from other cars ive had. Is this unusual?

Also ive noticed that the glow plug light comes on after driving for a while, then goes off again?

Car seems to be driving fine. Only comment id make is that when starting, after the engine kicks in there is a further noise for a few seconds and then it goes...

help appreciated...

Hi there,i have got 1.9 tdi and main dont have a eng.man. light. With that glow plug ligh flashing i had a simular problem but plus my engine went just off and than i had to wait about 15min. and than started again. The fault was glow plugs relay. i changed that and i didnt have any problems for about 1,5 year. Your noise after starting it could be a starter. when you starting car and it taking litle bet longer to start up that is mine that your starter bearings gone and is not reaching speed what it need for start. And that noise is when rotor inside of starter is touching souranding magnets becouse ball bearings are slag. enjoy your new octy:) and sorry for my gramar

The TDs don't have an EMS light as such. They use the glow plug light instead. So that looks like a case for a fault code reader.

The starter noise might be an air pump, or (presuming you've released the key) a faulty solonoid. Or, if the car's due a service particularly, does it sound like tappets?

Possibly be the Glow plug relay to cure your flashing light on dash.

I'd go for a brake light switch myself :)

Ahh yes Lummox i forgot about that one as a possible. Thanks:thumbup:
