Odd tyres..........

Featured Replies

Hi, I picked up my new (to me) 04 Fabia vRS last Saturday and have been smiling since!

However, i took some photos of the car the other day, some of which i posted in this thread: http://briskoda.net/forums/fabia/bought-me-new-motor/114693/

It was only on looking at this photo below, that i noticed that the 2 front tyres had a different tread pattern........

When i looked at the at the car at the dealers i noticed that the fronts kuhmo's and the rears were something else (can't remember) but wasn't too worried about that........

Anyway after noticing the differing tread pattern in the pics, i checked em in the flesh and it turns out they are 2 completely different kuhmo tyres..... Drivers side is a Kuhmo ECSTA SPT which seems to be a directional tyre - and the n/s tyre is a Kuhmo ECSTA KH11

This to my mind doesn't sound like a good thing? What effect will this have on the handling? braking, pulling away, in the wet etc?? Am i safe to carry on running around on this set up? should i speak to the Skoda dealer i got the car from and get them to sort it out? or is it not really their problem........

cheers

Steve

Shouldn't be a problem, however, if your bothered, then switch them with the rear tyres, matter's even less on the rear axle.

It's not ideal, as the different tyres will work slightly different to each other as they have a different tread pattern and possibly different compound.

That said for normal use on the road (not driving it like you stole it) you probably wont notice any difference at all.

There is nothing 'wrong' (illegal) with mixing tyres, providing they are all the same size, just not ideal. At the end of the day it will only make a difference if you drive to the limit of the tyres.

Many used cars get sold with 4 completely different make of tyres on them, its one way of assessing how much the previous owner cared for the car.

It will be fine
