Cam belt check

Featured Replies

Hi all, newby here.

Recently bought an 02 plate TDi, the service books been stamped by a Skoda dealer at 60k and there's a tick for tooth belt change. I've just rang dealer as its due for next service, the reg shows up on their computer, but there's no record of it having a service.

Is there any way to tell if the belts been changed? Is the belt marked with a manufacturer's date code?

Thanks Adrian

The belts do have part numbers and such printed on them, which eventually wear off over time. If it is still nice and legible it is likely that the belt has been renewed.

If the job has been done properly the engine mounting bolts should have been changed, new ones will not have yellow paint on them. However in my experience very few places (dealers included) change these bolts.

Hi

Checked belt, writing is still readable, but quite faint, also engine bolts have yellow paint on them but have scratches on them from being removed.

Has anyone suffered a snapped belt? what mileage did it let go at?

Thanks Adrian
