Water leak - ?drains?

Featured Replies

I have a 2001 Y plate fabia 1.4 comfort. When I went to work this morning, I drove down my street (I live on a hill and park facing downhill) no problems, but when I turned the corner (to the right) a lot of water (about 1-2 litres) gushed out from the front passenger footwell. No more has come out since this morning. After looking on the various threads I could find using the search facility, I took the pollen filter out and cleared it (about half dozen dried leaves and a tablespoon of crumbled up leaves) but noticed that it was not wet. I did notice that the thick insulation above the plastic panelling to the left of the pollen filter was soaked through. I also checked the drainage holes in the top of the engine bay (by the windscreen) were clear. I found one rubber drainage pipe in the engine compartment (towards the left side at the rear) and that is clear. I thought there were two, but cannot locate the second one for love nor money. I would take the panelling off under the glove box to have a look, but don't have a torx driver to undo the screws (I'm fairly new at all this). I am just curious if I have done enough to check it's not going to happen again. BTW, it rained quite heavy here last night. Thanks in advance.

IIRC there will be one of those rubber drains each side of the car , I think (I got the garage to do mine!!) that one of them is obscured a bit and takes a bit of looking for , but it is there! My pollen filter was soaked when I removed mine though.

You checked your doors, they are prone to leaking too.

do search, there's a photo somewhere showing both drains

this water definitely came from below the dash, I had to stop the car as it was coming in so fast I wondered what it was.

I did see that photo, but my engine looks different that the one in the picture.

doesn't really matter which engine you have, the starboard drain (rubber tube with a flap on the end) is just up from the brake master cylinder, the port drain is more like a rubber door in the front wall of the plenum chamber, tucked up behind the insulation behind the abs unit.

Thanks. I didn't think of moving the insulation (Dur - thick?!?). I'll go check it.

Found it no problems this time. Stuck my finger into it and, whoosh, a load of cr@p came out. put my fingers right up to make sure nothing else blocking it. I think (hope) that this was the problem, and that there is nothing else majorly wrong with car. Just need to wait for my mat to finish drying out now. The mat took 99% of the water, which is good cos at least my carpet is dry but mat has rubber on edges and underside so will take ages for it to dry.

Thanks guys!

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but I am still struggling to find this plenum drain plug on my 04 VRS. Does anyone have any good photos of the location? I have gone through all previous threads on the site and from the photos and descriptions given I still cannot seem to locate the plug. Thanks in advance.

Photos would be wellcome!

Thanks in advance

Unfortunately, like I said I've read all the previous posts (including that linked above) but still cannot find the drain plugs!
