Closing EGR Valve

Featured Replies

Have anyone here closed/blocked their EGR Valve on their TDI engine?

I Cleaned the intake on my 1,9 TDI 4motion Passat a couple of weeks a ago and closed the EGR valve with VAG-COM. I could feel a better performance after:thumbup:

I have ordered a new Tiguan with Common Rail TDI, I wonder if that engine will have the same effect?

Closed it? As fr as I know you cant close if fully with VAG COM only alter its operation so far. You dont want to really alter the EGR operation on the CR engine, its tied in with the operation of the DPF.

On modern commonrails you can't fiddle with the EGR at all. Block the EGR you'll either get a EML or limp mode, as the ECU can tell the EGR isn't working due to lambda values not changing as they should.

The Alfa JTDm engine in my car throws the EML when I tried blocking up the EGR (gasket with no hole!) and while it runs OK it's very lumpy.

Even the remapper tried to map the EGR out, but that threw limp mode and a huge string of errors. Seems the emission controls are very fussy on modern engines.
