Octy 2 setting foglights to come on with main beam via vagcom?

Featured Replies

I was browsing on a US forum for the mkv Jetta and it seems they can set the foglights to come on with main beams through vagcom, basically turning them into "spotlights".

Can this be done on the MK2 Octavia does anyone know?

I'm not sure if it is possible, but the beam pattern that a foglight is designed to give out is hardly anything like a spotlight!

A foglight will only light up around 6' in front of the car (and a bit to the sides), any more than this and they would be useless in the fog.

Sounds to me like Micky is mixing things up here, many US models use a function which disables the fogs while having the high beam active. Might this be what you have read about?

No idea how to do it, but it's illegal in the UK (and I suspect most of Europe) if your fogs are set in the bumper (but technically not on Octy 1s which have them at headlight height).

It is however completely pointless, because all you'll achieve is to create a bright "near field" patch of light directly in front of you, reducing your own "far field" and hence how far you can see, and simultaneously dazzling oncoming drivers.

Do you actually want oncoming people looking at you and thinking "Look at him. He is so stupid he can't use a lightswitch!!"?

Wonder if you could get the front fogs on an Octy 1 to come on when you pull the headlight flash together with main beam but not when pushing the switch forward for main beam?

it can be set with vag com, i did notice it a while back but not yet tried it.

Octy 1 or Octy 2?

Its illegal to have your fogs come on with main beam/flash switch IIRC.

Just wanted them to come on with flash but not with main beam.

octy 2 but the vag com should work on octy 1 too.

What settings need to be changed? Do I need the full version to do it?

i don't think it'll be possible on a mk1.
