turbo unit (KO3 Sport) wear and chipping.....

Featured Replies

Gentlemen,

I recently posted that the KO3 Sport (standard Octy vRS turbo) may have been on its way out with under 56,000 miles on the clock. I have now been informed by my dealers service department that infact it is NOT damaged, and essentially my new metal Dump Valve noise had led them to believe the bearings in the turbo were going :o.....

So, all is OK even after chipping. Still, some guys do believe that chipping the 1.8T has some detrimental effect, so here a debate on a SEAT site if anyone's interested.

Big Rich

turbos wear out.

any turbo pushing 70k will be getting worn...

just look at the aftermarket to tell you the real answer... plenty of options out there for all popular turbo cars..

k03 / k04 no better no worse than any other brand / application some will make 120k (like jons) some will not make 60k.. depends on maintenence / care /boost / luck dont discount the latter.. ;)

Big Rich, what oil are you using and how often is it changed? And do you allow the engine to idle for a couple of minutes after a hard run before switching off?

I am longlife services, so I'm using whatever oil my Skoda dealer uses

:o .

No, I haven't been in the habit of letting the engine idle at the END of journey, although I don't tend to be thrashing it a lot either as most of my (high) mileage is motorway/cruise control based (indicated 80mph/90 miles per day).

As for 'caning it' from cold, never, I ALWAYS allow the engine to fast idle, after I found lump starts to be rather annoying  .
