1.4 mpi chain

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Does anyone know anything about the process of changing a 2001 1.4MPI Cam chain? I recently heard someone talking about oil pressure having something to do with it??

If anyone has undergone this process or knows anything about it, all information is greatly appriciated. Many thanks in advance,

2012.

Unless it's noisy, you don't need to change a cam chain. Even if it is, are you sure it's the chain and not a weak or failed tensioner?

it is noisey. The kit with chain/tensioner is about £36 tops, so wouldnt it make sense to change it if the engine is being stripped down that far? ive read all sorts of reports about this issue, some saying there are no tensioners at all, i dont really know what the score is, but at the end of the day theres 60k miles on the clock and its noisey, and has never had a chain change, so im figuring i do it now and sort out the heap? wouldnt that make sense?

thanks for your response. 2012

60k miles would be nothing for a chain unless it's not tensioned, in which case it might well be due for renewal (on grounds of quietness, not risk of engine damage).

They dont have a tensioner!!:)

any ideas then guys? anyone had one changed by skoda or privately? If so, how much did it cost, if you dont mind sharing.

Many thanks, 2012

I didn't have a manual to check in, but the rule of thumb with a chain is that you only change it when it's noisy, except in a few well-documented (and non VAG) cases.
