Sticky/shiny stuff on dash - ideas on removal?

Featured Replies

Well I cleaned the inside of the Mondeo today, it was minging. Got a nice matt finish everywhere, leather cleaned, good hoover, glass done etc...

However, there is some shiny stuff on the dash  I tried to remove it with some Auto Glym Tar Remover, but I think thats made it worse :(.

Any ideas? I hadn't noticed the marks when it was dusty, and I think the white marks are the tar remover residue...

Cheers!

Cellulose thinners.

Time to chop it in? ;)

Methalated spirit(poor spelling)

Is that real wood............;)

Meths or lighter fluid. Possibly white spirit if they don't work but be careful as it can mark some surfaces so test first.

80 grit.

Cellulose thinners.

They would probably eat/mark the plastic on the mondy dash

Try servisol label remover if a bit of cr*p vodka on a cloth doesn't work.

The white marks are potentially where the tar remover has reacted with the dash, so if you have a quite rough MF cloth, I'd give it a bit of work with that and some dash cleaner when you have the stick stuff off.

From another thread and OT, but what's up with the A/C?

A new car?

The A/C is the pressure switch, will be sorted in the very near future. :)

Cheers for the advice. Some shampoo on a toothbrush removed the white marks, which is good.

I've now tried WD40 with no luck. Will get some of that label remover from Halfords.

There is a Mondeo dash in the right colour on ebay for a penny, so if worst comes to worst... :P

Servisol Label remover is under £5 for a spray can at maplins and will remove sticky residue from stickers/pads. They do their own brand stuff for less, but i can't say i know how it compares. I've never seen it in halfords.

Yes, if you left it on there for a few hours. Cellulose thinners can be used to remove most stains/stickers etc but people are too afraid that it will cause damage in some way. It won't.

Don't leave your balls on the dash?

Looking at it again, I think its superglue :(

If it is , then you can get superglue off with nail polish remover containing acetone , but like all things test it on a bit of the dash out of sight first

Have you still got that car Tom........

Just change it, like you normally do :)

Gets the superglue out again..

That depends totally on the plastic. Depending on the type of plastic damage can be done in seconds as experienced by a certain lab that got chemical resistance desks, but not tap handles.
