New Superb!

Featured Replies

I think it is fair to say that a lot of Skoda's (For the Superb) client base are old duffers, with their leather driving gloves and wot not... The other bunch are the people who spend day and night in the car either on the motorway or as a taxi.

That is probably just my sweeping generalisation and I fit into the spending day and night on the motorway in it.

The old superb is a car for the motorway, expect the new one to be the same.

We can joke about this but I reckon it's one of Skoda's big problems.

Me...I'm 37, I chose a Superb as a company car when I was 32 (boy I took some stick!) and bought a new Octavia vRs when I was 35. Not in the fold now but the new Superb is currently pole for my choice of new company car next month. I know I will get stick again (believe you me it can begin to grind you down!) and the new A4 is very tempting. For me I think the park assist will swing it for the Skoda...is that the biggest pose ever or what?

If the dealers refused to sell to bearded customers OK sales would initially drop by about 75% but they could begin to turn this image thing around!

Volvo have done it and I'd say Honda are pretty much there.

The new Superb won't be an old persons car. It is too big and has too much technolodgy to sell to the blue rinse gang. I'm finding that the general age of Skoda buyers has fallen over the last 2-3 years.

Well I am 64 and do not consider myself an old duffer. I bought the Superb purely on value for money. Badges mean nothing to me and I tried BMW, Merc, Audi, Saab and Volvo before making the Skoda choice. Having seen the new Superb yesterday I am even more sold on the value for money theme. Anyone who passes up this car on the basis of the badge is an idiot and deserves all they get. The Dealerships vary (mine is excellent - Sherlodge) but believe me the other make Dealers ar all in the same class - some good some bad.

That's my little rant for a bit.

The majority of people I have seen in Skodas (around where I live) have been old(ish) people.

But on here the majority of drivers are quite young in that respect :D

I wouldn't say it's a problem as old people are a big market.

I did get some stick off my uncles and some people after buying a Skoda but what I can say is its spent more time on the road rather than on the ramps so i don't really care about this "old mans car" image.

Back to the new Superb. I'm slightly dissappointed that it looks similar to a Passat/Passat CC tbh. and I'm really liking that clever boot mechanism

Drove new superb today- LHD- amazing car so much better than the last one and a world beater.

Much nicer than the Mondeo, C5, laguna (what isnt?)

Lives up to its name and can get dog in boot in this one!!

Just saw 2 transporters of new superbs! quite a sight:D

Oh, thats bad!

Because the general age of me, has risen in the last 2-3 years.

Hold on, I'll get your coat.

Well said that man :D

Are there any running cost figures out there yet (road fund tax groups, mpg, insurance groups)

well said :)

im still sub 30 and i would own a skoda if i didnt work for them, in fact theres a red octy 4x4 turbo on the forecourt thats temping me right now lol!

I'm only 20 and I work for Skoda and I'm seriously thinking about getting out of company cars due to the tax and into a new Superb on PCP, failing that a Octavia vRS CR Estate.

As said on another post, the mature and wealthy demographic buying new octy's and superbs allows us younger drivers the chance to grab an excellent used, lightly driven bargain a couple of years down the line.... As opposed to a thrashed vectra that's been a rep mobile

Burnsey; we do used Vauxhalls also and I can safely say that I hate them. They are just so dull and everyone has got one. But they are cheap, their value drops like a lead baloon.

My dealer said that no test drives were being allowed in the LHD cars and they were for customers to view only. Is this right?

Although in fairness the new Insignia looks like it could change all that. Time will tell

Indeed. They seem to look nice and most Vauxhalls generally drive quite nicely assuming they get the quality of the finish right it might be a nice car to own.

Indeed I might have had an 18 month old one for the price of a 55 plate octavia, although I doubt I'd have got as generous a trade-in on the superb, and the vectra estate is so ugly imho.

Superb or legacy estate next me thinks - something that a greyhound can fit in

Very good brand imo, right now I want the VX look with what the Superb offers in refinement, think it could be a Passat as a way station until I can get a yr old model of either.

I've just had a look at one at Bickertons Sheffield.

The rear end definately looks better in the flesh, and the sat nav in the Elegance was years ahead of the one in my Superb Mk1.

Wasn't convinced with the quality of some of the materials though. Plastics lower down in the dash felt cheap. Glovebox and the sunglasses holder felt a bit flimsy. Don't like the grab thing to pull the hatch down - feels low rent, though I suppose it is easier for everyone to reach. Perhaps I'm being overly harsh, though I've not got my Skoda with me today to compare. Also noted that the umbrella now just slots into a hole and not into a compartment as before.

I'm not sure what wheels the car had, but they seemed a little small, and the car could do with being a tad lower.

There was only me and some old bloke (my dad is 72 and he looked older!) apart from the Sales people. Salesmen told me that they had already taken orders for 2 this morning! Nice car, but personally, I'd never order a car without having driven one first.

Any official news on L&K or vRS models?

Think I was going in too critical - I'd like to see it again now!

Im 32 and have driven Skoda cars for last 3 years. Doing what I do in my job I can almost pick any car on the market but i Drive a Skoda Octavia Estate (for the dog!) 2.0 TDi 170 vrs with loads of options.

Its great value for money- 5 years ago I wouldnt have dreamed of buying a Skoda- now I wouldnt buy anything else. I drove the New A4, Honda accord, Fiat Bravo (!) Golf etc all the usual suspects but at the end of the day Skoda drove the best and is comfy and great value for money.

All those narrow minded people who simply HAVE to overtake you just because you are driving a Skoda are simply wasting their money and certainly when someone overtakes you in a vectra the jokes on them. (you must have all experienced the deathly overtaking of the skoda on a blind bend manouvre?)

New Superb will take over the company car sector, lets look at the option:

1. Laguna- awfull car- enough said. They are the worst car i have ever driven

2. New Mondeo- had any one tell you they have ordered one? We sold one last week- quoted MARCH 2009 delivery - yes march as in 7 months away

3. Passatt- too expensive and only 4 door- the new superb is more practical with the 5 door variant ideal for UK market

4. Audi A4- ITS A BADGE!!!! Thats all folks dont be fooled!!!

5. Honda Accord- As carlsberg would say---probably the worlds most overpriced car

6. Citroen C5...er.....NO! Its a Citroen...isnt that french for "depreciation"?

7. Peugeot 407...See above french term- car is so outdated

8. Vectra--hey if your boss buys you a vectra you know he doesnt like you and its time to leave!!! We get £9000- yes £9000 discount of some of the vectras.

Have to agree with most of what you say, although the only competitor i've driven from the current model line up is the Accord. I've had a look at 2 C5's in different dealerships and the "perceived" quality (feel of the dash materials, tactility of switchgear, solidity of doors etc) is good - better than the Accord. Whether that translates into actual quality, only time will tell.

Currently drive a Golf GTi DSG and now considering the Superb for the next car.

I've ruled out Merc/BM/Audi on the basis that i want a car not a badge with everything else as an optional extra. Not interested in a Mondeo (tacky interior, no decent auto option) or Laguna (improved apparently but still years behind).

I don't think that the Vectra is relevant anymore as it's effectively dead and even GM officials are publicly accepting that it was rubbish. For me it's come down to the Superb and the Insignia as i think that these 2 cars will stand out from the herd (only if the Vauxhall lives up to the hype). BTW that says a lot for the Superb in my opinion (speaking as a Skoda novice).

My choice will be made after extended drives in both. My requirments are refinement, ride quality, interior quality and lots of toys and a good (but not necessarily sporty/pin sharp) drive.

I'm hoping that theyre sufficiently different for me to make that choice as i don't want it to come down to looks or lease pricing alone.

Interesting times for the humble "rep" sector:thumbup:

I used to have a Mark 5 golf R32- loved it but too expensive to run and depreciated like a Vectra!!

I should be able to arrange a superb demo for you when they are out- as long as its to your company. Private message me if you want and ill talk to you on there about it?

Just come back fom Meadens Skoda in Sway.

They got a Metallic Green Superb Elegance 2.0PD 140 manual.

It looks great in real life and is very high spec too.It seems endless with all the things you can do in this car.Massive interior yet quite small looking from the outside. There was a guy from Skoda UK there who was giving me a demo of everything and he states that the only other cars with bigger rear legroom are: A6 Audi,S Class Merc and BMW 750.Its very spacious indeed all through and the boot is huge.

Actually seeing it makes you feel better about all those first impression photos around. It is an awesome car.Nice 18" alloys (very VRS looking).

Thanks to Danny and Tom for the food and tea:thumbup:

  • 2 years later...

I showed off my Superb to 3 different Merc driver in the past month - all 3 vowed to take a trip to their Skoda dealership - one of them immanently - He'd been down to his VW dealership - was shown a Passat- sat into it and promptly walked out of the shop. - They didn't even mention the Phaeton to him despite seeing him get out of an E-Class.

I'm only driving the Greenline trim.

(Wish I could have got the elegance on my company car deal)
