Fabia vRS - struggling to start?

Featured Replies

Over the past week or so my Fabia vRS has been struggling to start. The ignition needs to be held on like your flooding the engine and also press the accelerator at the same time. Thought it might be a glow plug problem but I changed them today and no joy.

Any help appreciated.

Oh and once it starts the engine runs perfect. Doesnt skip a beat.

I suppose things to check would be the starter motor and battery? I had the starter motor go on mine (funny grinding noise that persisted for 1 second after the engine had started and the ignition released). Batteries normally only good for about 5 - 6 years.

My dad's had similar problems with his Octy. Could be a drain in power somewhere or we were told that sometime when the fuel filter is fitted the seal can pinch which lets air in. So when it tries to start all it does is pump air for a few secs and then starts. Runs like a watch when running. Doesn't skip a beat.

Find some one near by with VAG com and check for fault codes.

Check for fault codes, I have an intermittent problem with the crank shaft positioning sensor on mine and it caused turning over without 'start'. Quickstart spray fixes it for me, and it only happens every once in a while. As the engine in mine is getting transplanted it doesnt bother me enough to sort it, but a scan will more than likely show the fault up :)
