Drove a CR TDI vRS :)

Featured Replies

Was plesantly supprised!

Pulled a lot smoother than the previous PD TDI, without the usual shunt of power around 2000rpm. However, it was very quick through the gears what with so much power and a tiny rev-range!

Which brings me nicely onto the next bit... DSG :)

First car I've ever driven with DSG and it was very odd.

Not quite the "seemless" up and downshifts I was lead to believe it had, but nevertheless was quick at changing gear. If you burried the throttle it would change up just before the limiter too, which was something I didn't expect.

Tried it in manual too and worked fine, although I think it'll be better with the fourthcoming padle shift option.

For just pootling about the automatic mode was very smooth.

Overall, both good :)

Are the only changes under the bonnet, and does it sound any better?

Could you feel it pulling any lower down the rev range compared to the PD out of interest? The one thing I sodding hate about mine is how it gets completely and utterly bogged down at anything under 2k

Didn't look under the bonnet, but it was certainl quieter than the last PD I drove.

It seemed to pull better yes, but without that "spike" at around 2000rpm, it's a lot smoother.

Hope this helps :)

I know that a remap will definitely cure the laziness of PD170 :)

Anybody any ideas on when the other CR engines are filtering down to the rest of the range?

I had a 30 min blat in an Aston Martin V8 Vantage convertible "sportshift" on Sunday and the changes in that weren't quite "seemless" either so I wouldn't get too upset about it!!!!!!!!!

how do you know if it has cr engine i got a black magic 170tdi on 2nd july seems quieter and better suspenson any ideas

Had a drive in a VW with the CR engine whilst on holidays. It is smoother than the old engine and seemed quicker too. Gear shift was smoother too, but that might have been 'cos it was a VW model. Seemed quieter too.

I could be tempted .... but that would be stupid wouldn't it!
