Oil Pressure problems

Featured Replies

I have got a Mk1 Octavia RS.

The engine blew up in October 2007 and I think I have just seen off the second engine.

I have had lots of code reading done and some serious codes were found, but nothing to do with Oil or pressure?

It does just about run but sound like a Ferguson tractor not an RS Skoda.

Has anyone had the same problems?

It's not been driven like a race car, and has never been pushed ridiculously out of it's comfort zone!

They usually show a camshaft set point fault if the oil pressure is low. It's to do with the hydraulically operated variable valve timing.

What are the codes that you have?

00792 - Air-con Pressure Switch

01274 - Airflow Flap Positioning Motor

16395 - Camshaft Position Sensor "A" Circuit (Bank2)

16396 - Inlet Side Camshaft Advance Set Point Not Reached

16684 - Random Misfire Detected - Any Cylinder

16687 - Cylinder #3 - Misfire Detected

16688 - Cylinder #4 - Misfire Detected

16717 - Knock Sensor 2 Circuit Low Input

17544 - Long Term Fuel Trim ADD, Fuel, Bank 1. System Too Lean

As you can see it is a fairly worrying list of codes. The car is being taken away to London on Monday and they are fixing it under warranty (Thank F*ck) But I have wrecked the engine twice within 5500 miles. I have not driven it that hard and checked the oil and water regularly. I tested out the cars top speed once against a DB9 cabrio on A27 near Chichester - but just in case there are any piggies on here I will keep that speed to myself, and that was months ago.

The car is professionally maintained - so I don't understand why this has happened twice. I have lost the faith I had in Skoda at the minute, and not sure if I want this car back again. Thanks for you interest and help

Two coil packs gone?

17544 - Long Term Fuel Trim ADD, Fuel, Bank 1. System Too Lean

Leak from a breather hose?, sucking in air when at idle.

16396 - Inlet Side Camshaft Advance Set Point Not Reached

Indicative of low oil pressure, if accompanied by expensive engine sounds.

That leaves:

16395 - Camshaft Position Sensor "A" Circuit (Bank2)

16717 - Knock Sensor 2 Circuit Low Input

on the engine sie of things and:

00792 - Air-con Pressure Switch

01274 - Airflow Flap Positioning Motor

on the air conditioning.

I wonder; did the rebuilder try and cut corners by not fitting a new oil filter and pickup? That said, I'd agree that some of those fault codes look like coilpacks, and others aren't engine.

Thanks Guys - I will let you know the outcome. I was picked up today.

Incidentally - It had a new new engine allegedly? I am certain that they cut corners, and put the old cambelt on etc...

If a "rebuilt" engine fails after 5_000 miles, my immediate suspicions turn to whether or not the oil pickup, filter, and possibly pump were replaced, and whether or not the oilways were cleaned, which IMO are all things that should be at minimum cleaned, or replaced in the filter's case, as a matter of course. A rebuilt engine should be effectively "zero lifed", and good for as long as the original (with proper servicing), so at least 150_000 miles for a VAG unit.

Usually rebuilt engines get a 1 year or 50k warranty from my experience.

I'd suggest the very first thing to do it make sure the oil level is good and get two new coil packs in the car.
