my vrs' first m.o.t results and questions

Featured Replies

hey all, my vrs had its first mot today, passed but had an advice slip attached saying my discs and pads all round will need changing within next few thousand miles

its done 28k miles and is still on original discs and pads, also ive been quoted 250 for work and parts, is that a good price and is 28k a reasonable amount for original pads and discs

cheers in advance

At 32000 when I bought mine the rears had already been done and the fronts now need doing at 34000 so I would say its about right.

I'd say 28k is about right, possibly a touch early if you want to be very picky.

£250 seems a touch pricey... front discs and pads mintex off ebay/ from a factors would you set you back about £65... plus £40 for the rear discs and pads thats £105.. £145 labour seems a bit steep?! decent independent shouldnt charge more than £70-100 to fit the front and rear

For what its worth I paid £50 (labour) at an independant for the front and rears changing on the fabia :)

i managed to steal a set of rear disks and pads for £20 + delivery

fronts cost quite a bit more (but i did get 312 kit)

it all depends on how you drive the car as to how long your brakes will last, i doubt you will need the discs replacing unless they are rusty (usually the rears)

my rear pads lasted over 50k , and they went round the Ring 20 times , Spa 50+ and did 3 track days at Oulton park , i've still got the original rear discs fitted now at 63k with fresh pads

i swapped to 312s at about 46k , but i mullered a couple of sets of original size front pads on the track, but the discs are atill ok , the 312s are the ultimate though especially with DS2500 pads

Mine aint actually managed to pass an MOT yet......poxy thing

I have just had the original discs and pads done all round at 68,500 miles.

My car's on the original discs and pads at 4 years/51000 miles. I'd say that 28k was a bit early, unless you drive it quite hard?

Ive changed the rears myself at 3yr old 34,000 miles but this was due to corrosion not wear. The fronts only needing a clean

cant say i drive it hard, i always look whats up the road and just gently give the breaks

any body give on the link to a good place that supplies all pads and discs at good price for me!

thanks

I think my brakes and pads may last a while more yet. As conditions rarely suit to drive relatively quickly anymore, and fuel costs so much money, I only really have to tap the brakes at particularly sharp corners, roundabouts and junctions - vary rarely in normal A road or B road driving...
