Strange Quote for mods on Fabia VRS

Featured Replies

Would like peoples thoughts and feedback on this subject, I find it very strange however I am new to modifications.

Current Fully Comp insurance cost for unmodified Fabia VRS = £268

VAG PD 160 air intake + Parrot Bluetooth Handsfree kit = +£63

Quote for custom remap from approx 130bhp to approx 180bhp = no extra cost

Quote for rear anti roll bar fitted = +£122.90

I find it very very very strange that they charge me extra for an air intake or a rear anti roll bar however a custom remap will cost me nothing?!?!?!?!? And £122.90 for the roll bar???? It is only going to cost me £210 to buy it!

I can not understand any of this! I have had to say yes to the air intake and parrot premium because there on the car now and I would be uninsured if I did not declare them but Im rather worried about what is going to happen with my insurance when I get my Remap and RARB!!! I also told them I was an advanced driver and they did not offer any reduction :-(

If someone else understands this please explain it!!! Im lost and confused!

Seeing how the intake is lumped in with the Bluetooth kit, it seems to me that the mods that have been charged for are the visible ones (i.e. the ones that arguably make your car more attractive to thieves, rather than the ones that mke you more likely to crash it. Then again, £450 for a remapped Fabia is a lot less than what I pay for mine...

Very suprised that a remap isn't bumping up the premium, are you sure the numpty on the end of the phone understood you currectly?

Depending on who you are insured with the costs of adding each extra mod is dispraportionate, for eg I got a quote for having the RARB at + £50 but when I added the konis and FSD's it bumped up by about £400 to then add the 312mm they wouldn't touch the car, This was when shopping round at a non specialist Broker.

I would suggest giving Brentacre a ring, very understanding and knowledgeable set up :)

When I was with Elephant they charged more money depending on how lowered your car was (measured in mm) I think it's a form of voodoo and black arts that they use to calculate these things.

That was pointless and not much help. I apologise.

That's certainly an option. I've mentioned on here more than once about the time I rang to disclose my uprated brakes, and had a hell of a time explaining to the girl on the other end that they did nothing to increase the brake horsepower of my car...

Snap, with Privelage the charged a premium for uprated discs and another premium for uprated callipers:confused:

Well, when I mentioned it at the time, there was a credible suggestion that someone with bigger brakes would be likely to brake later and harder and therefore more likely to skid and crash, so I don't oppose the hike in premium per se. The total lack of understanding of my 'advisor' was a bit worrying, however... :P

Well, to be honest the girl on the phone did not understand a thing about the mods, she kept having to consult her supervisor. I know the air intake had to be classed as a non standard air filter as they could not put it on the computer. I also explained that the intake does very little to power or performance. But yes I did say the remap gives it a lot more power, makes it a lot faster etc etc. She even asked for a percentage power increase on the remap for which we answered approx 40% increase to make sure! I would have expected about anything up to £100 increase for the remap however the amazing supprises are that it was free however a simple RARB costs £122.90 to insure! The bar costs less than the insurance for the part alone over two years!

I think the problem lies with the fact that this was a very well known mainstream insurance company as opposed to a specialist broker!

Should have also said it was on the proviso that neither added more than 5% to the total bhp of the car:rofl: In the end I just agreed that they didn't:O
