sat nav

Hi

Are there any updates for the 2006 sat nav systems

My dads does not seem to work correctly, it will not pick up a route across the seven bridge even with toll and motorways selected and active

You can buy more up to date disks from Tele Atlas.

I forgot to say the maxidot also comes up with

ZIEFUEHRUNG NICHT AKTIV - from time to time

Which must mean something is not working, but everthing else is english, I've looked at the tele atlas website and there is a 2008/2009 disc over our 07/08 but I not willing to gamble £113 on it still finding the bridge

Checked the sats and 30 are available 8 being picked up is this ok?

Nothing to worry about. Just hold down the rocker switch in the tip of the right-hand stalk (does not matter if up or down), wait for the menu to pop up, then toggle to what you want; navigation, computer, etc., release and wait a moment.

As to the Severn Bridge, the 2007/08 TMS-compatible disk successfully took me over the new crossing recently, correctly claiming that the old crossing was closed, as indeed it was at that time. It was equally efficient on the return.

IMHO this won't make any difference. The Severn bridge will have been on there in all 2006 versions of the mapping; the reluctance of the unit to take you over a particular bridge/road/junction/whatever is down to the way it plans routes, not (in this case) the mapping being out of date.

Sat navs only take you on the route the unit thinks is the best. I know it may not be, you know it may not be, your dad does; but what matters is that it's the unit thinks it is. Don't forget it will make an assumption that there is no traffic and you drive all the time at the maximum speed.

The other thing to remember of course is that you can force the unit to do what you want it to. In this case, set your route, drive to and over the bridge (ignoring the instructions from the unit) and then follow the instructions once you're over the other side. Nobody makes you follow a sat nav.

Just because a sat nav tells you to drive off a cliff... would you?

just a thought...

I don't find it exactly obvious from the menu display whether options have been selected or deselected and when the car was new I did manage to follow a route avoiding motorways (for a few miles), which was not my intent :o - maybe you've made the same mistake - or am I the only one that daft? (answers not required!)
