Octavia2 Elegance wheels

Featured Replies

Hello,

I am the proud owner of a Skoda O2 Elegance TDI2.0 2008 made :) and I am a little bit confused by replacing my wheels... I would like to change the existing ones (6j15 - offset=47 and 195/65 tyres) with OZ Anniversary Black/Diamond (8j17 and 225/45/R17 tyres EagleF1 gsd3 probably). On the OZ web site, under choose wheel, for O2, it tells me that both 8j17/offset=35 and 8j17/offset=48 match Octavia2... how can this be? For an offset of 35 I calculated that the wheel will get 13mm closer to the strut housing and will extend an extra 37mm to the outside ( Wheel Offset Calculator ). For an offset of 48, it will get 26mm closer to the strut housing(isn't this too much?) and it will extend 24mm towards the exterior. I came across the same confusing matter on other wheel manufacturer sites as Alutec, Aez.

Also, while websurfing, I came across one site (couldn't find it again though) that stated that Octavia2 should have wheels with an offset between 35 and 45; I also went to a local wheel vendor who told me that for Octavia2, recomanded values of the offset are 40 to 48.

Which offset is best suited for Octavia2 for 8j17 wheels? Is this wheel too wide? Should I try 7j17 instead? With what offset? How would 225/45tyres look on 7j17?

I DON'T WANT TO USE SPACERS!!!

Thx in advance,

Sorry for being a noob about this things

One of the sites that gives recommendations is '>Skoda Octavia II 04> 17" Alloy Wheels Search - Alloy Wheels - Specialist supplier of alloy wheels and tyres packages, 0% Finance and Fast Delivery

Thats one that says -35 to -45, although I have no experience of how correct they are, or where the data comes from.

Another good site is Car Bibles : The Wheel and Tyre Bible Page 1 of 2 which has rim width calculators etc which you may find useful

The standard 7j 17" alloy wheels on my L&K Octavia 2 have an offset of -54. I'm about to relace them with 7j 16" alloys that have an offset of -35 so they will 'stick out' by an extra 19mm.

Ok, now I'm more confused than before.... why do your values appear to be negative? If you use negative values, ur wheels will actually retract from the outside... Try this: http://www.1010tires.com/WheelOffsetCalculator.asp

Jesus, I never thought choosing wheels will turn out to be so confusing...

Ok, 10x, that was the site I've found earlier in my web related searches, but the thing is those values again are not negative... Quote from the site: "Offset - 35 to 45" as in "PCD - 5x112" or "Model - Octavia II 04>". I think the "-" is there just for delimitation.

Anyway, 10x for helping me found that website again.

Sorry about that - you are quite correct, the offset is positive! I thought I understood it all but I'm now starting to wonder. Just to confuse you further the offset on the steel spare wheel is 45 but that's 6.5j.

No problem. I've written an email to Skoda asking for details, hope they answer; if they do, i'll share here their official response.

OK - I think you're right! My mistake

As promised, official response from SKODA international:

"Thank you for your email sent to our mailbox. We regret to hear about your current difficulties with buying the stock wheels to your vehicle Škoda Octavia II.

The recommendation of us as producer of homologation wheels to your car you can find in your logbook /the big one/.

Nevertheless, in your country is your local Skoda dealer/importer responsible for the above-mentioned tasks. This is why we recommend you to contact your dealer/importer in Romania whom you can ask to examine the whole matter.

Thank you for nice words about your satisfy with our product.

With best regards,"

Contacted local dealer also, who instructed me to contact skoda international :)

As they say any offset 35 to 45 will be ok. In my opinion the stock whells are to far in to the arches so I change mine with zeniths plus 15 mm spacers which gives me an offset of 39 on 7j17. Not to sure about 8j17 as you said probably too wide or just about and for tyres the 225/45 are coming from facoty on 7j17 pegasus , zenith and sputnick alloys

8J seems a bit too wide for 225 tyres, unless you're looking for a Euro-style look. I run 225s on a 7J standard on the Disastra.

I've now fitted the new 16" 7J wheels with an offset of 35. The fronts are slightly outside the wheel arch. TBH I'm not too happy with how they look; an offset of 45 would have been better.

First of all, thank you very much Irin, ZS and bertJ for your advices.

I finally ordered today 7j17 wheels and 225/45 tyres. You can see them below. Wheels have 42 offset (Mak Vertigo Mirror) and tyres are Dunlop sp 9090. I chosed 7j17 because Mak only makes 7j17 or 8j17 (at least for the models that I like); using offset calculators, 8j17 wheels with 35 to 40 offset seemed to extend too much to the outside... no 7.5j17 so I chosed 7j17. Hope 225/45 tyres won't make it look like a bicycle wheel, lol! 42 offset means they'll extend 18mm(exterior) and come some 8mm closer to the strut housing. I think this is ok.

Tomorrow I'll go put them on and make some photos to upload'em here, hope they'll look nice and you'll enjoy it.

Thank you very much again for your support!
