Charge cooler

Has anyone ever looked into running a charge cooler

does anyone run intercooler mist/spray ?

Advantages / Disadvantages Been thinking about going down this route ??

cheers guys

what power you running mate

Thought about it but never done it. A few people have tryed the mist/spray on the oem smic but dont think the effect has been great.

You would have to get a custom charge cooler made to fit the oem smic position, a pipe made to attach the MAP senor, water pump and a big enough ratiator to keep the water cool. Time you've done all of that it'll be cheaper or same price to fit a forge/proalloy or seat fmic plus the fmic will probaly fit better.

I wondered about it, then the costs... TBH if I was heading for bigger power, I might consider it. At the moment, the Fabia is my daily driver, so it has to be reliable and cheap(ish) to run.

On TDICLUB, (generally Golfs), they've tried bigger SMICs, two SMICs, addition of a chargecooler to the SMIC etc....

In some ways replacing the factory pipework and incorporating a chargecooler somewhere along the line is the most elegant solution as it improves your charge air cooling and removes some of the pesky plastic piping and its clips/clamps.

Best cheaps mods are the pikey mods 1 & 2.

I use water injection directly into the boosted air to cool things down. Early days yet but initial testing looks good, even on just water with no methanol in it.

I'm pretty sure no one has actually fitted a charge cooler to a fabia (yet... :D)

Technically, Fabias etc already have a charge air cooler on them as these items cool the air after it has passed through the turbo but before the engine manifold :D

As with everything Polo/Ibiza/Fabia, it's finding the space to bolt stuff in.

My first Astra (1982 X) had a huge engine bay with a tiny OHV 1200cc engine in it. Nowadays every cranny has a component, welded bracket or pipe running through it, with smooth plastic covers running over the top.

charge cooler for a fabia is much cheaper than the equivalent pro alloy/allard intercooler, for mine i've managed to go from £1400 for a pro alloy to £650ish for a charge cooler set up,they are available from derv doctor, and are austrailian:thumbup:

Charge coolers arent suited to all application, heatsoak eventually will get the better of them. Id say for the Fabia application your better off with an air to air intercooler. There is already enough weight over the front end.

FMIC and water/methonal injection kit.

Ive got Pikey Mod 3 coming ;) Have to wait for my post tho. Should be next weekend!

That will see the temps go down, and you could raise the boost too, without having to worry too much about turbo.

EDIT: Unless youve got a standard turbo! in which case, intercoolers should be the lease of your worrys.
