A puzzle

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys,

When I start my 1.8T from cold it works ok until the secondary pump disengages and the revs drop to 750. it holds the revs for about 10 secs and then begins to bounce between 500 and 1000. Sometimes when I stop the engine stalls.

However, if I accerlerate hard in 2nd or 3rd up to about 6000 rpm, it maintains the 750rpm idle speed for the rest of the day. A puzzling situation. Any Ideas?

have you tried a fuel system cleaner?

make a strong mix of one, it might help

you might be having trouble with the injectors, does it feel rough and jumpy when it does it? id try a dose n a half of redex or the wynes, put the wynes in urtank and only half fill ur tank, run it for a while then leave it to soak for a few hours. then go for a drive again. hope it is that simple.

good luck mate

I added the redex to the petrol and the car is idling better but not perfect. I want to clean the throttle body. What is involved and are any specialist equipment required?

Thanks for the advice so far

Dirty throttle body usually affects acceleration in the form of hesitations from my experience.

Idle is usually ok due to less air entering throttle body on idle but when on WOT more air passes through throttle body so you notice it. Thats how i see it anyway.

New throttle body gasket, allen key and carb cleaner are required for throttle body cleaning, there is a guide on here somewhere.

Cleaned the throttle body and it has made a difference. There was a coating of oil though on the throttle body as well as in the pipe from the intercooler. Is it suppose to be there and if so how does it get in there?

Thanks for the advice guys

Its better. I am planning to check all hoses into the turbo and through to the throttle body as well. I have noticed a small of black smoke out of the exhaust so I will just check there are no leaks in the system.

The advice on here is brilliant. Briskoda saves you money
