Dump Valves.......YES OR NO

Featured Replies

Will an aftermarket DV make loads of noise ? even if used in the recirc mode ? can it work as a blow off ? SHOULD I EVEN BOTHER ???? Please somebody clear up my mystified mind with an answer .....Thanks by the way

In order of asking ...

No, must be recirc for 1.8t, No, No (IMO).

I'm sure someone else will provide a wordier response :)

Better of investing in an aftermarket airbox if you want noise. Carbonio is imho the loudest...

What about a modified airbox and k&n panel Q... doesn't that make a nice noise ?

i changed the dv on my car cos it stuck every now and then, worth it to know it aint a cheap flimsy bit of plastic that will fail easy

thanks for that ....i do not want any other noise in my car apart from the cd player ...unless said noise drowns out the Mrs cyberskidz's sweet tones....then i will pay or change anything !!!!!

Go for a KnN it's not that loud at all and you'll get a bit of a DV noise, that way aswell

vroooooooooooooooooooooom TISH lol :D

the bailey recirc valve from jabba (we get a discount too) is about twice as loud as the OE valve but you cant hear it over the cd player.

add a green panel filter without modding the airbox in anyway and things get a little louder but still not enough to drown out the tunes...

worth while doing both IMHO, the car feels slightly more eager low down the rev range and as someone said its nice to know the standard (pathetic) valve isnt in there ready to fall over.

plus its the first step to modding the car !!! ;)

i've got the Bailey DV30 as fitted by Jabba when i had my re-map and now have a Carbonio CAI kit and it is fairly loud, not to bad with the windows shut, radio on etc but everyone outside hears it.

not to keen but getting used to it,love the looks on peoples faces as they wonder where that noise came from then realise its from a Skoda and not a Subaru!!!!

Forge are in the final testing stage of their 1.8T BOV. They have sent out a number of production quality samples to dealers to try on guinea pig cars. The quality looks very nice; the one I saw was anodised red and is supplied with an alloy plug for the TIP. I haven't heard it myself but I'm told it's nice and loud.

Bailey do not recomend using an atmospheric dv on that unit. Some cars adapt well to venting to atmosphere, some not so good and some (like the VAG 1.8 unit) are just downright unhappy about it.

Bailey do have a kit for it but its recirculationg, we fitted one to an Audi 1.8T. You cant hear it at all but the owner does feel the vehicle is better on throttle between gearchanges.

When an atmospheric DV opens it dumps all the posative pressure from the inlet and also all the vacuum. As this vacuum and pressure is being used to not only control the idle but also the fueling dumping it out to atmoshere can have a dramatic effect.

At the end of the day you could fit an atmospheric DV to the unit but it would just be a complete and utter **** of a car to drive which kinda takes the fun outa it. Nothing worse than giving it a blap through a town so all can hear the DV, then slap on the brakes dip the clutch, car cuts out, no power steering and hard brakes, wont start cos its overfuelled and when it does trails a big cloud of black smoke as the excess fuell burns off. :o

As I said, nothing is impossible ............... but somethings are just not worth the effort

Not as embarrasing as you might think - the diesel look is fashionable right now ;)

The new Forge BOV will be specifically for the 1.8T and avoids these problems due to a dual piston design.

yeh i heard i do the odd job for my mate marc who owns a garage and he was speaking about this. about time to i say Vag owners havent had that many dump valves to choose from...if any. good to see more is gettin designed.

Anybody have a non oem dump valve for sale ,spent so much dosh buying the car the misses will do her nut if i spend another 100 odd quid on bits for it ...?????

Forge already have a dual piston atmo dump valve that works fine on the 1.8T - the FMDV004. Bailey also have a twin piston too, the DV26, also works fine. The HKS SSQV also works fine on the 1.8T - I have tried them all and they all work fine - no stalling, backfiring, surging, CEL's, nothing - just normal running and noise! I've had the HKS on for about 9 months now with ZERO problems - not even a fault code.

There are quite a few guys from the SEAT forums running a selection of these atmo valves with no issues at all.

The 1.8T can vent to atmosphere without any problems.

cyberkidz - PM Monkeyboy aka Paul and ask if he's interested in selling one of the valves he might still have lying around, i know he's changed the valve on his about 3 times so far...

Do it!

Carbonio plus dump valve equals big smile when changing gear at 7000rpm. Trust me...

BOV work!! some people won't be happy. But i will when i get my hands on one!
