Price drop predictions?

Featured Replies

This question is based mainly to the people in the know who sell cars

Based on the current climate, what are you preedictions on the 2nd hand value of a new Superb will be about 6 months old?

I'm hoping to get a 3.6 V6 model, but there is no way I can afford to poke out nearly 27k. And since places like AUTOEBID are already offering 3k discounts on a car that aint out yet, what is the 2nd hand retail value likely to be?

I usually try and target 6 month old cars with warrenty, so Any good predictions?

cheers

I doubt there will be many 3.6 V6's sold at all... :(

Shame, it's a nice spec!

Skoda really doesn't expect to shift all that many Superbs to retail. Most of the sales will be to fleets, where the V6 will be avoided like the plague (too much CO2 based tax).

That leaves retail customers as a source for the V6, and I doubt many of them will be tempted. Even then, I reckon you'll be lucky to pick one up at only 6 months old.

Your best bet is probably to find a dealer who chose the V6 as a demonstrator (if any of them did).

As for value, then I reckon the V6 will drop like a stone. From what CAP are telling us, it's the 2.0TDi's that will retain their value best. I'm guessing that a 6 month old car, low mileage will go for 18-20K, depending on spec.

That is a guess as well mate :) the one I would buy if I could justify it is a SE DSG DTi and full retail is 20k for that car, but having said that the VAG machine does like to keep forecourt values as high as it can, I've seen Passat's being offered for sale S/H for 2k more than I could get a new one for.

It's not a complete guess, as I've got the CAP residual value for 3 years/36K. Given that a large proportion of the loss comes in the 1st 12 months, I've sort of tried to average it out. It's never going to be that accurate, but it's probably a reasonable indicator.

It's all gonna depend on the market... they can't give a value for a car brand new to market in three years :)

It's never going to be exact, but they do give values. Sometimes they are way off, other times pretty good. Personally, I expect the 3.6 to be a bit of a dead duck. It's in the range because Skoda want to have a flagship model, but I seriously doubt they will sell more than a handful.

The combination of spiraling fuel costs, increased road tax and high CO2 emissions make it a complete non-starter in the company car market. If I was going to get a high emission vehicle (Superb V6 is in the 35% bracket), there are way better things on the company car list.

e.g. Mitsubishi Evo X, Impreza STi, Mazda RX8, Focus ST-3, Golf R32, Passat R36

Being honest, I'd love to have any of the above, but simply can't afford the tax. If I could afford the tax, the Superb definitely wouldn't be top of my list (given my alternatives).

Skoda have very carefully positioned the Superb, and have a fantastic range of low emission diesel options. The 170 TDi with DSG has about the lowest emissions of any automatic out there. It's also a fantastic combination of engine and gearbox. Having driven the Mundano with automatic box, the difference is amazing. It's in this market where the Superb is virtually unbeatable, except perhaps for the usual badge snobbery. That's why I'll be ordering one as soon as my lease company can get their act together.

Now, if Skoda could take a leaf out of BMW's book, and produce a decent V6 diesel, we'd have a performance Superb that ought to sell like hot cakes.

Ah I got ya, you meant 18-20k for a V6 one rather than the 2.0 didn't you?

Around 18k would put it in my price bracket, but as you all say, finding one would probably be the hardest part.......

Cheers for the info folks.....

I agree, they won't sell many 3.6's... which is a shame :(

That's exactly what I meant.

I'm sure that the 2.0 TDI's will fare much better. At least, that's what I'm hoping. My lease quote is depending on it.......

After all this waiting, I'd be gutted if I couldn't afford the car on my current monthly allowance.

But on the plus side, Stealers might want to shift em quick if they do have any, and may take a cut down price just to get shot... (I Hope!!)

I don't think any dealer in their right mind will order a 3.6 for stock. They'd be too worried about exactly what you've pointed out.

I was thinking more trade ins and demos...

If you could get an ex demo for a huge discount on new, then convert to LPG, I think Bob could be your mums brother :-)

I would probably get sacked if I ordered a Superb 3.6 as a demo...

Only if you couldn't sell it
