Odd noises in Fabia VRS

Featured Replies

Having had my Fabia for aout 4 month now, I have got used to driving it and am lovin it! I have also noticed some strange sounds which I am not sure if they are normal or not. Hopefully if my descriptions are any good someone can put my mind at ease or I can get the problem sorted within the warranty period.

Ok 1st strange sound - when first turning the key in the ignition to the intermediate point i.e wait for plugs to heat, I used to hear what sounded like water running through pipes. As it was there fom day one I had assumed that this was normal, a pump charging or something, may be the abs pump? But recently, within the last week, this no longer happens. Could this indicate a problem some where?

2nd strange sound - When booting the throttle there is a screeching sound. I guess this is the turbo? It doesn't sound like a turbo whistle though, which I can hear a lower revs. Does this sound about right?

3rd strange sound - Sometimes when braking I get a bit of squeeking brakes but on the odd ocassion the squeek continues after the car has stopped, still with foot brake on. If I hold the brake down for about 20seconds I get a click from the pedal which then drops down a few mm. Is this normal? If so what is it, seems a bit weird.

Any replies to these questions would be much appreciated.

Cheers

1 is normal, its the fuel pump, can't really say on 2 without hearing it,3 is called mooing, there s a kit out where the cars that did this were fixed by the dealer:thumbup:

No.1 is the fuel pump priming. I wouldn't have thought the car would start if there was a problem.

No.2: If you mean the whooshy type sound, that's normal.

No.3: Maybe an air leak in the pipe to the brake servo?

In addtion to the above,

4th strange sound - Get a fairly quiet, but still annoying, squeek when turning the steering wheel. Sounds like it might be coming from outside but can't really tell.

Turn the radio up, If I forget to turn the radio on when I drive to work (ie wife as had car) then I hear all sorts of weird and wonderfull noises, great route to paranoia :D

Agreed. Only on the day that it goes in for a services, do i turn the radio off to listen for any suspicious noises.:)

problem nos 2 sound like the torq bearing just had this change on my vrs. I thought is was a slipping drive belt but a trip to Caffyns in tunbridge Wells diagnosed a faulty torq bearing (basically on the end of the alternator shaft is a drum like bearing and housing that the alternator belt runs over this is supposed to reduce the wear and tear on the alterator) when the bearing goes in this can be terminal for alterator and pipes around such area. my problem arose from an occasional screech from the alternator area and red dust on the pipe work. mine is under skoda ext warranty so both alternator and torq bearing was replaced free of charge apparently common fault on VW and Audi
