Door Membrane

Featured Replies

after some investigation and a sudden down pour of rain i have noticed that one particular door, the passenger front door when i open it there is alot of water that is around the door rubber seal and the kickplate. All other doors are not showing water in these areas.

Could i have a faulty door membrane inside the door which is letting water into the car ?

Are these membranes replaceable or expensive ?

thanks

They dont have a membrane as such, they have a metal ancilleries carrier which holds the windoow regulator etc together.

Yeah. I didn't know this, and the first time I took my door card off I pooed myself.

IIRC however, isn't it sealed with something? Looks a little like mastic but I assume it's a gasket?

If it's the passenger side it sounds like you have the pollen filter leak issue, have the battery cover off, *the large one not just the flap* and even if it's dry in there now, pour some fresh water in and see if it drains off ok.

thanks, have already investigated the pollen filter problem and am now sure that it is the door that is causing the problem because of water is pooling at the bottom of the door by the rubber seal around the edge of the bodywork and no other door is doing this!

Are the door cards easy to take off ?

Sometimes mine does this, as did the last two I have owned. Check the drain holes at the bottom of the doors, they sometimes fill with gunk and other debris, I used a cable tie to poke the holes - oh er missus! So as not to scratch the paint.

Also check the outer door rubber seal, the one around the sides of the door as it opens, make sure its not caught up, failing that cut a small notch out the bottom and the water will just drain away.

i will look into that but it appears that the water is coming out between the door and where the door car sits against the metal door, so the water is higher up and overflows above the kick sill if that makes any sense ?
