"knots" in the power steering system?

Featured Replies

A "knot" is the only way I can describe this. It happens about every time I give my car (and the diff) some serious stick around a corner. Once through the bend (in which the car is fine) I can be going along straight and if I give it small movements to the left and right, enough to just slightly wobble the car, I can feel a "knot" or a slight stiffening of the steering wheel at each extreme of this slight wobble. On manouvering a tight bend, at slow speed, you can turn through this "knot" without too much issue (you can tell it's there).

After leaving the car at work, it drove home without any repeat of this (well, there were no opportunities for mega diff action :D) I assume the problem (if there is one) is hydraulic / pump related, but am curious to know what it might be. Definitely in some way related to serious cornering stick - something which I remember happening quite badly at the North Weald handling day....

Not the ATB/LSD mate? I remember getting shocked at the lack of "unwinding" of the steering wheel first time I booted it through a corner

Nope - this is something which continues well after any manouvere. :)

A Review Iv'e read of the Fabia say it's easy to "Catch out" the Power steering servo, whereby during rapid movements of the steering wheel the servo assistance isn't going in the direction your going,

I can say for sure if iv'e ever experienced it, it could be a load of ****** that some bored auto journalist came up with

Perhaps lighteningthe wheel effort/increasing the steering assist may decrease it a tad?
