Rear Parking Sensors

Featured Replies

Hi Folks,

I have tried the search function but I have not been able to find answers to these questions and so here goes.

1. Does the inside of the Octavia vRS rear bumper have moulded in marks for the location of parking sensors?

2. What are the wiring requirements? A splice into the reversing light for power and then a wired buzzer/speaker somewhere in the cabin?

3. Does the control unit live inside the boot or can it live within the bumper (I assume leaving less cable to feed into the boot)?

I am hoping to fit one of the cheap as chips ebay park sensor kits to my vRS with the sensors in the bumper itself rather than the rub strip as I prefer the way this looks.

Thanks

When you say cheep as chips, how much exactly. I got a genuine Skoda kit for less than £50 off Ebay, & it was quite easy to fit.

The alarm sounder unit fits behind the door pillar trim (the one between the front & rear doors) under the seatbelt top mounting.

The control box fits in the boot spare wheel well out of sight.

The power is taken from the reverseing light feed in the rear lights.

I have a 4x4 & the bumper does not have any markings but it's very easy to measure & drill the holes. Would assume the VRS bumper won't have any marks either.

Hope this helps

By cheap as chips I mean £21 delivered from the UK. This is for a non LED/LCD system (they look ghastly in my opinion anyway) and as there seems to be little to choose between them, excellent value.

I have them and they are fine

thats the kit i fitted, the color is near perfect (if not perfect) and the subject to you being happy to take the bumper off its not difficult to do, the kit is really good quality and helps was well worth fitting.

If you take of the rear rubbing (black) strip on the bumper there are some markings underneath so you can work out where to position the four sensors without them being in odd places and not evenly spaced. Measure, check then check again before drilling as once its drilled its drilled. You then use the grommit located in the rear panel and feed the wiring through into the boot. These plug into the control unit which in turn you splice into the reverse light and earth to the rear earth point by the rear lights. You then plug the buzzer in and you should be ready to go. Just one thing, the buzzer was so loud in my kit it was crazy actually, so i taped over the buzzer centre with electricians tape...much better now!!! All the bits fit behind the drivers side rear carpet neatly and you would never no it was there.

I have just fitted my kit and as others have said it was a doddle. It took about an hour and a half with some careful measuring and a fair amount of time taking the bumper off (this is the first time I have removed a bumper from a car).

The colour match was almost perfect and the sensors blend in with the car (black) very well. To make sure they were in the right place I used the rubbing strip as a reference. I measured down from the bottom of this strip 2.5cm and made marks all along the bumper. I then ran a strip of masking tape along these marks. I found the center of my bumper by running a plumb line from the boot lock and then measure the sensor positions out from my centre point. This seems to have given me a fairly close to perfect spacing. The only tools really needed are the holesaw provided and a suitable driver, T20 and T15 Torx bits, a 10mm spanner (v.awkward) or even better a 10mm socket and extension. A pair of scissors and some electricians tape sees the job done!

If anyone else fancies this then do it - it really is easy. If anyone wants anything about fitting these clarified then please ask.

Kind Regards (and thanks for the help of others!)

Rich

Holy cow you soon got them fitted, good one that man
