Fabia VRS and Dealer Margins

Featured Replies

I'm after a bit of advice! Having left the fabia fraternity (used to own a vrs) for a while, I now find myself looking for another!

I've found a one owner, extremely low mileage 05 vrs for sale with a dealer. But they are asking 8,990. A quick phone call got this down to 8400, What do you think the chances are of me getting it for 8k, and is this a fair price.

The car is standard apart from black magic paint, one owner 12k miles, bought sold and serviced by the same garage with a full skoda service history, 2 stamps!

Been looking for a couple of weeks now and getting desperate for the right car.

As the car is second hand, you can only guess what the dealer paid for it/Offered in part exchange for it. All you can really do is try your luck and see what they are prepared to let it go for.

I paid 8995 for mine back in september last year with 28500 on the clock, I would have thought it would be a bit cheaper than what you could be paying.

go private mate you'll get a better deal, cars are not selling that quick now due to the so called credit crunch, the stealers are just rip off merchants

Very true...

But atleast with a dealer will will get a short warrenty if you find something goes wrong.

But sounds like an ace car mate.... GO FOR IT.!

Ideally I do want to go private, but don't seem to be able to find a suitable car! I sold my car a week ago, so need new one asap.

If I can get it for 8k, then I don't think it's too bad a deal. Hopefully I can use the credit crunch to my advantage. At 8,990 it's pretty extortionate. Can't imagine they gave a penny over 7k for trade in, going to take a look on Saturday so I'll try my luck. Maybe 8k with a service chucked in for free.

just so you can compare, i bought mine a 55 (2006) model same as yours with the black magic, got 13000 miles on it and i paid 9k for it

That would be a cracking deal for you.

And the dealer should still be making a good profit.

They will be doing anything to sell a car at the moment with the recent down turn in the market. And the sales man will want anything to try and hit target//commission. Try going in towards the end of the month, as if they are only a few from the target they will give you a great deal to try and make a sale.

Cheers for the advise, I can only try! I'll let you know at the weekend if I'm once again a fellow briskodian. Can't believe how well these cars are holding there value at the moment!

Also to help you compare I've just bought:

55 (Feb 06) Fabia vRS, Black magic, 15,000 miles, £9k.

Another comparison for you:

55 (Feb 06) Fabia vRS, Black, 25,600 miles, £8k

Well I bought the car at the weekend, Managed to get the car for £8200 in the end with a free service, and a free mot (When needed). The car interior was like new (only 12k miles) although the paintwork has suffered from a number of carwashes, swirls everywhere.

Pick it up this afternoon, so will probably spend most of the weekend detailing it.

Just got to decide whether I pay a trip to Jabba now or not!

Well that sounds like you got yourself a really good deal there, I pick mine up on saturday. For £8k, I got a free service and MOT in on the price aswell as gettin a scratch and a dent out of the back doors either side sorted and brand new rear disks as the others were buggered!!

I'm still surprised that vRS's are holding their value so well. You're more than welcome to come and collect my mint 56 plate for £9k* :D

* mods - this is not a for sale ad**

** unless someone really want's to buy it ;)

Yep, they are holding up well. List price was about £12,400 for a standard car with metallic when we bought ours almost exactly 3 years ago. If you can now still get £7k for a trade in then thats 56% retained value over 3 years which is right up there with the slowest depreciators.

Even better when you consider that a lot of people (us included) didn't pay list price for them to start with!
