Like the black colour coded vRS, that is very much the sort of thing I plan to do to mine. Probly swinging more towards the 'subtle' stealth look

Thanks

I would like to try something similar but not sure how it would look with Race Blue. Any one tried it and/or got pics? If not I might give it a go. Can always buy another I suppose and sell the painted one.

Do it... Now, if not sooner.

Yes, do it, it doesnt take much effort, and looks quality.

Am I the only person left who actually likes the chrome?

I like the chrome but then i have a silver car and chrome number plate surround :)

Am I the only person left who actually likes the chrome?

I think so....mines going black or red.....

Mines chrome aswell

this is one of the very few things I am thinking about doing cosmetically to the car, think it looks awsome on the black cars:)

Mine, sans badge, next to a 'normo' at a dealer:

Colour coded, any colour of car for sure! The chrome just looks 'stuck on' in my opinion. :thumbdwn:

Also how difficult is it to paint the inner parts of the headlight black? I see theres a few cars pictured with this - looks good , and is there a 'how to' anywhere?

Phil Monk: what paint did you use to paint your grill surround? Looks like satin, is it?

Also, seen that you've done the fog light surrounds as well. Same paint? Do replacement ones not come as black plastic from the dealer?

Quick, drunken, how to:

Remove bumper - guide on forge website (FMIC fitting instructions)

Remove bolts securing headlamp and thus remove and unplug the units

Gently heat and prise apart headlamp lense and main body, having removed securing clips before hand

Scrape out all the old sealant you can manage

Clean lense and stow away safe

Unclip the chrome surround thingy

Key it with wet 'n dry

Spray it, either gloss black or satin (I did satin for OEM feel)

Refit is reverse of above, adding new sealant (silicone, or windscreen sealant - what I used)

Pleasure....

PS, I did at first use etching primer for plastics but it had a nasty reaction to the surround and cracked it, I then spent hours sanding the cracks out and just painted it so IMHO just hit it with paint!, I did this on my Fester it '01, but it looked ****, good job it was a spare headlamp:rolleyes:

black majic from halfords on the fog surrounds and skoda dealer black magic on the grill. both have 3 coats and 3 coats of clear laquare.

Sorry about the spelling, the fog surrounds do come in black plastic but i sanded my silver ones and repainted them.
