another boring brake question

Featured Replies

wanting to change my brakes and pads on my 05 vrs, having never had to do this on a car before and not being mechanically minded im not sure on whats a good choice both reliability, life span and money wise

my local garage quoted 250 for supply and fit

i was going to get these -----> Skoda Fabia VRS Front & Rear Brake Discs & Pads - NEW on eBay, also, Skoda, Car Parts, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 22-Aug-08 16:22:48 BST)

but wasnt sure what the average labour charge would be or if 150 for these is worth it

as with current ongoing gripes with my local skoda dealer im not even going to consider them

all help much appreciated:thumbup:

Id never done it myself until I found that guide, its easier than you think.

And a massive cost saving, only took me 3 hours to do the whole car, discs and pads.

I'd be very wary about buying brake bits where very little information is offered, could be that these parts are spot-on but just poorly described - or could be that they are cheap copies. If you are keen to buy them ask exactly who the manufacturer of these parts are. There are quite a lot of "Pagid" pads for sale on ebay that are only "Pagid" copies made in Turkey and have another name - begins with "F" I think - Pagid etc do not as far as I know lisence third parties to use their name - enough said. Cheap is only cheap if it is the right thing. I'd try indep VAG specialists for this job if you are not happy with using VAG dealerships, but remember they might only be happy fitting parts they supplied - and can you blame them as it will be them you go back to if you have any problems!

All of my setup is off ebay, cant remember the seller now.

But if you search its the mintex sets.

ring the seller does front as well.

can only find front brakes with them though, seems quite reasonable though, thanks for the link, now just time to find the rear set of brakes and pads!

I got all Mintex off of ebay (312's and rear).

Was dirt cheap, and there really good.

what is an average cost of labour for fitting brakes? priced up front and rear pads, comes to 141 quid inc delivery, and are these mintex good brakes?
