Quality of milltek is appalling

Featured Replies

That system is different to the one I had first from Milltek, I must admit I've not looked at the one fitted to the current car. I will have a look though.

The first one you had has subsequently been revised due to 'boominess' when used in conjunction with a downpipe but I maintain sounded better as a cat back!

I know someone wasn't happy with them beforehand on this thread, but I can't rate the guys at Longlife strongly enough!! :)

I think it depends on which branch you take it to: I took it to Carshalton and then Swansea when something didn't seem quite right with it straight away (and I wanted to change the tailpipes too!). All it was was that they hadn't put enough wadding in to compensate for a Golf G60 being MASSIVELY noisy from the exhaust manifold down (G60's run a very loud engine with a LOT of heat which actually turned the fibre glass from the pre-Longlife system into glass balls in the silencer, so not a fault with the system). Mal at Swansea just replaced the entire thing without a blink; was happier that I drove away pleased than the cost of the rebuild.

However, they DID have a branch at Basingstoke, massively nearer about 10 miles from me, but they shut it down because of quality problems. So you see my point about where you take it being important.

Longlife do actually use proper grade stainless steel instead of the rubbish that Powerflow use that rusts within weeks. Do a search on www.clubgti.com forums for Powerflow to see some horrendous examples!

all sorted now :) the CEO of longlife has got the car booked in to another branch to have it done properly. so if this bunch do a better job i'll be singing their praises!

it proves its worth getting onto the head offices of these places and taking the matter up to the boss!

Definately. I believe the head office is the one I went to in Cardiff, and i'll say again, they were brilliant. Even asked if I wanted to order a curry with them as I was waiting in the office as they got a take-away for lunch. I think Mal is now at the Carshalton branch cos when I bumped the exhaust, i'm sure it was him that rewelded it solid. He's VERY good!

Hopefully you won't have any issues cos they do seem to be a good company with solid products... as long as you get the right branch by the sounds of it.

Also, they do tend to try really hard to fix any problems as well from Golf posts i've read and my own experiences. It's nice that a company still gives a toss about customer satisfaction! When I was in there originally, a guy had a 1970's sportscar of some sort, kind of larger, plusher version of a MGB, which had a twin system front to back. I think it was transferring a lot of heat, vibration and noise down from the engine which was causing it to crack the welds and generally be a complete ******* to stay together as it was quite complex, but the guy was happy to bring it back for them to work on a few times. I think it was a trial and error sort of fit as they were both saying it was proving to be a bitch, but they were determined to crack it and the guy appreciated that, so was more than content with Longlife.
