Quality of milltek is appalling

Featured Replies

My miltek is only on a few weeks and look:

Why do i and other people buy this milltek crap, the quality is awful. At first glance the quality looked good until it's used.

If i have to send this back to the Uk supplier it will cost money and downtime of the car. It seems not enough weld on the joint, i'm thinking of trying to weld it.. also where every section is joined there is a leak despite how tight the clamps are.... Pure absolute rubbish. My last car had a miltek and also had problems too

That doesn't look very good.

not another shoddy exhaust!

it seems you have to be careful where you go! my other half has just had a longlife exhaust from the battersea branch, and lets just say their workmanship is pap! its not straight, they didnt have the right diameter pipe, started bending pipes when they were asked to use only mandrel bends, its blowing already, they damaged the car and blamed a perfectly good clip for another blow in the turbo end!

and if it starts to look like that, it will be winging its way back to them so i can wrap it round their necks lol!

send pics to the customer care maybe?

Should have gone to Pipewerx like I've been saying for ages.

If that's the case I'm a little intrigued why you went for Miltek again.

Because everyone kept saying to me i was just unlucky with the last one and that no one else has problems.

Top work from these guys ;)

I've always been happy with Milltek and I'm sure they'll change that without question.

BTW what car is that on? Is yours an estate?

Had a couple of Milltek's and cant say I hae any complaints with mine, High mileage too.

Allways gone to Exhausts UK in Sheffield never had a problem, in short top quality and top people. They go that extra bit further to make sure your happy.

Never had much faith in off the shelf exhausts suspect quality can sometimes suffer as in this case, plus Miltek aint cheap. If you pay top dollar you should expect first class quality.

Stu, just a hatchback. It seems there isn't enough weld on that spot. A spot of weld might less hassle overall.

Looks like a different design to mine. I don't have a box that joins like that at all.

Supersprint are the dogs danglies - but expensive :(:(

Are you sure? It's the same as makefish exhaust judging from pictures i saw in a thread of his at one stage.

Picture of the offending box( on the right) before it was fitted:

I've had two minor issues with the Milltek exhaust but to be fair the first was a teething problem which was down to the fact that it was one of the first Milltek had done for the Octy II and the second was a broken bracket on the downpipe which was replaced without question by Milltek.

I'll stand by Milltek and state that they make some of the finest exhausts available and back it up with a bullet proof lifetime guarantee so an issue such as yours (although perhaps inconvenient) should be dealt with pretty quickly and efficiently.

................... oh and be careful if the intention is to weld the offending item, insist it is removed from the car before any welding as there is a possibility knackering the ECU.

Ah yeah if i go this route it will be taken off, looks like a simple weld might fix the problem. It just seems not enough weld where the joint is leaking. Not sure what i'm going to about all the leaking connecting joints. Maybe exhaust paste and better clamps that might do it. I know someone with a R32 (mkv) with a miltek and he had to get all the connecting joints welded to stop them leaking

I'd second that statement Steve.:o

You dont always get a perfect product (unfortunatley), to me its how a company backs you up if there is a problem that counts for a lot. By the sound of it, Milltek excel at this.

Don't even think about trying to weld that. Something's had it away with some of the pipe.

Also, I used to have a mate who managed an exhaust centre, and he automatically put a smear of Firegum on every joint they made.

Hi

I must admit , we have not had many issues with them

But the back up we get from them is fantastic

Have you been in touch with the company that you bought it from

In my opinion , it is better to speak to them than to go on to a forum like this to complain....

I am the worlds best when things dont go my way....but it is better to speak to someone who can do something for you

I can help you if you want

It's not as bad as it looks, that black isn't a hole it's just carbon build up from where it's leaking at the weld. Thanks sarah for the offer but I live in Ireland and when i take the exhaust off and have a good look i will decide what to do. I'm nearly certain welding will fix this.

I know someone wasn't happy with them beforehand on this thread, but I can't rate the guys at Longlife strongly enough!! :)

I think it depends on which branch you take it to: I took it to Carshalton and then Swansea when something didn't seem quite right with it straight away (and I wanted to change the tailpipes too!). All it was was that they hadn't put enough wadding in to compensate for a Golf G60 being MASSIVELY noisy from the exhaust manifold down (G60's run a very loud engine with a LOT of heat which actually turned the fibre glass from the pre-Longlife system into glass balls in the silencer, so not a fault with the system). Mal at Swansea just replaced the entire thing without a blink; was happier that I drove away pleased than the cost of the rebuild.

However, they DID have a branch at Basingstoke, massively nearer about 10 miles from me, but they shut it down because of quality problems. So you see my point about where you take it being important.

Longlife do actually use proper grade stainless steel instead of the rubbish that Powerflow use that rusts within weeks. Do a search on www.clubgti.com forums for Powerflow to see some horrendous examples!

Well I am here if I can help ;)

I wouldn't get that welded.

Get back in touch with your supplier who can order a replacment from Milltek and have it swapped over. If you weld it then you 'may' invalidate your Milltek warranty for the future, especially if you have an issue in that area.

That system is different to the one I had first from Milltek, I must admit I've not looked at the one fitted to the current car. I will have a look though.
