Removing the door handles

Featured Replies

I'm in the process of colour coding the car and have realised that I can remove the handles for a separate re-spray, i can see the torx screw after removing the black cover from the front handles but cant see anything from the 2 covers for the rear doors?

How do u remove the rear door handles?

cheers

Same process as the front, there is a torx screw in a hole, smaller than the fronts im sure. A small cap over the hole.

Just to the left/right (door depending) of the top spline bolt that holds the lock in place.

Does anybody have a how to guide on removing the door handles?

Be very carefull when unwiding the torx screw in the door, if you go too far and the lock ring drops off behind you have to strip the whole lot down.

hummm - i am doin mine saturday (plus various other bits that i decide are no longer gonna be black *grinns* watch this space *even bigger grinns* but deffo wont be colour coding)

useful to know about that anyway cheers guys

Its one of them jobs that is really easy to do once you know how. If I get a chance ill take one off at wrk and take some pics to make up a quick guide.

I have just had some work done on a bump I had in the rear bumper, The guy that did it made the bumper look brand new. He said he will spray all 4 handles for £50 quid if I get them off. Being a bit of a biff with cars I have no clue really how to get the handles off.

I managed to get the bumper off and pop the dints out my self, heat and mold them ready for him to fill/spray but I had the how to guide.

This would be helpful for the handles but I can't find it on here.

That would be great lummox.

Cheers Ross - much appreciated :D

Right, just need to find a suitable car tomorrow...lol

a 56 plate silver vrs would be grand! :P

Looking forward to it. ;)

How did you get on Lummox?

did this one die a death then?

Well - I successfully removed the 4 handles off the now dead fabia I had. What I found tricky is knowing how far to unscrew the bolts for the barrel to come out. I kept undoing it a turn, then wiggling the barrel. With the first one, it remained "stuck" up to the point the screw I was undoing fell out into the door (didn't matter but will matter on my own car!) - I ended up wiggling that one out using a flat screwdriver - something I don't wish to do on my own car again! It just seemed "stuck" in whatever the screw on the side was doing. Once the barrel was out, unclipping the handle was easy and it just needed a little force to pull the handle out from the front end. :)

I'm not looking forward to doing this on my own motor though. :(

Right sorry chaps and chappesses I had got a little sidelined on this one. I will do it asap. I would have been going up U18 tomorrow and could have done the guide on WW's Fabia that is up there but my Golf has just shat a driveshaft so i'll be doing that. Get right on it I promise.

bad news on the shattin! Hope You get it sorted ok. Look forward to the guide!
