BLT vs ASZ?

Featured Replies

BLT and ASZ engine differences, what are they? why they change?

its to do with emmisions

ASZ is Euro III

BLT is Euro IV

(i think)

ASZ ftw!!

so what are the differences?

Stttuuuttteeerrr... LOL

The newer engine has a revised EGR system. The emissions are better but some engines suffer from the afore mentioned stutter. More info here:

There may be other differences, I don't know. I assume the reason for the change was to make the vRS Euro IV emissions compliant.

The ASZ cars also had a much longer 6th gear ratio than the BLT engined cars so they are a bit quieter and more economical over 60mph, but the BLT engined cars are a bit more flexible in 6th gear.

The stutter is a definite issue but it's easily fixed by drilling out the right sized hole in the appropriate gasket. Someone like Lummox could probably do it in a very short time indeed (and hence not too expensive) or get it almost fixed properly for free by taking the car to a Skoda dealer (assuming it's not had it done already).

i used 9mm gasket without drilling.

Partly correct the early ones (03, 53 and 04 plates) had the taller 6th gear.

The ratios were changed as part of the facelift.

The stutter isn't that bad, Honest:D

Partly correct again...

It wasnt at the same time as the facelift as my 04 pre facelift has the newer gear ratio's, it was only the early 2003 models that had the older ratio's ;)

Mine (53plate) has the early ratios, and they suck ! :(

6th gear at anything less than 70mph is hard work.

anyone know if BLT stands for anything

There are two gearbox ratios on the vRS, and only the very first batches had the longer ratios, to the best of my knowledge.

The difference is purely engine emissions related.

BLT engines tend to give a few more ponies as well. Mine is standard, and the dyno showed 141 BHP.

Stutter fix is easy 9mm hole in one of the EGR exhaust feed gaskets (replaces original gasket)

After that the only difference is EURO4 emissions stuff.

My march 04 pre facelift has the old box and long vrs badge. But then is did land in the uk in feb 04 :)

Someone has to do it- so it may as well be me - Bacon, Lettuce and Tomato! ;) My favorite sandwich!

an extra £10 in tax a year due to increased co2 output

well between 2006 - 2007 I think. not sure what months.

original is 139

blt is 143

and after this is 139 again

:(

Not so....

I have the old ASZ engine and the log book quotes 147g/km @ £120/yr

The current tax brackets mean that the BLT will still be paying £120/yr as the CO2 bracket is from 121 - 150g/km
