Double Checking Whether Spark Plugs Were Changed

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I had oil and spark plugs changed last week - I bought the parts and the garage fitted them.

I can tell the oil has been changed but I am not sure if they 'forgot' to do the spark plugs:(

Is there any way of easily checking whether they were changed by any chance?

Take one out and see if it looks new.

if you teak a lead off you might see the name of the make you bought and it should be really clean on the white bit....or as above.

I think that you are in a bad situation, what makes you think that they did not change the plugs? Sometimes you really just need to trust the garage or do the work yourself. By supplying the parts I can work out that you did not use a main dealer - so that means that the car is probably not under warranty, but it also probably means that you are not able to do this type of work - which means that you will have to just trust the garage changed them or get someone to change them again. If you get someone who "knows his/her tools" then after they take one out they should be able to tell if the plugs are new(ish).

Edit: I'm not trying to be hard on you - once I got the feeling that my Ford dealer had not fitted the correct plugs (car was under warranty still), unfortunately my gut feeling was correct and they had fitted all they had - plugs of the wrong heat range. I just replaced them with the correct ones bought from another Ford dealer - then went to listen to their stories, reception desk first, workshop manager next -then the dealer principle - they all had different stories including a TSB - that could not be found!! I just reported them to Ford and got a refund from Ford - I didn't want to but they tried calling me a liar and a fool - and that didn't work for them - as a customer you just need to spread the good or bad news around!
