octavia 1.8t issues??

Featured Replies

a chap who i work with has recently bought an octavia 20v turbo, he says the car accelerates as it should but when it gets to 5000rpm its like hitting a brick wall and the car becomes very hesitant!

any ideas or has anyone else experienced this??

thanks

He's not bought a diesel has he?

sounds like its been mapped for 97ron+ and he is running it on 95

its a standard 150bhp 1.8t, would have thought 95ron would be fine??

Could be early signs of the maf, but to be honest their is not alot more after 5.5k, turbo runs out of puff.

Could be a sticking actuator, had it on my Evo 5. Used to pull very hard up the rev range then would hit fuel cut (like hitting brick wall) which was caused by overboosting. Easy way to find out is having a boost gauge fitted to help monitor the boost levels.

Paul.

Could be a split diverter valve also

I think I have a simular problem. She pulls beautifully to about 5k revs then die's. I am used to bouncing a 400bhp R off the rev limited though.....

Does anyone know if it worth changing the tubby then getting her remapped? If so, which fit?

I've got two T25 Garretts but I doubt they'll work. Only got my vrs Thursday so haven't had a chance to look under the hood in grate detail yet

I ran my mk1 1.8T elegance on 95ron (normal unleaded) and it was fine. Infact when I did try super, noticed a drop in performance and MPG.

Quite a few mk1 owners ran on 95ron without issues.

yes thats what i told him, i think i need to go in the car myself to bear judgement.

the last 1.8t engined vag i went in fealt to peak off above 5.5k, i think he may be expecting it to make power to the redline!

whats an R out of interest?

cupra R?

skyline GT-R?

civic type R?

plus many other "R's"

and when you say T25 garretts what exactly are we talking as that could be almost anything from 170-480 rated turbo :)

anywho to fit a T25 fitment garrett turbo your looking at manifold/turbo/downpipe and everything that touches them and then more still.

looking at his other post the car in question is a nissan pulsar GTI-R, they come with the t25 or t28 standard i cant remember which??

to acheive 400bhp from an sr20det nissan engine you would need a gt2871r or possibly even bigger.

with the age of a pulsar gti-r it won't have a t25 or 28 it'll have a T2 or T3 which are different turbo's :)

just looked into it, the pulsar uses the t28 turbo

ah yes so it is but its not a gt28 :)

the T28 is a thrust bearing turbo where as the gt28 is dual ball bearing :)

I`ve got the same problem but I thought it was normal

i think it is normal and the owner is worrying, after a good chat with him today it doesnt sound like theres anything wrong with his car!

many thanks for all the comments and help  much appreciated

Mine slows down, but certainly doesn't drop power at 5k

just thought id update this thread, the car has now been sorted turned out to be the MAF!

the fault he said he had got worse to the point where the car was very hesitant to rev past 4k at which point i told him to get it plugged in.

the diagnostics pointed straight to a low voltage on the MAF, he is well happy with the car now and ive even pursauded him to get it remapped at JBS :D

I had a similar problem on my tdi!! It would accelerate fine to three thousand and the would struggle to go any further. found it difficult to get to 70mph especially if you were going uphill.

One of the guys on here suggested it was the MAF sensor attached to the air box. He said to disconnect the wiring to it and see if it ran better on the standard map.

Once I did that It was problem solved... The car is now going like a rocket!!!

Glad it was a simple thing like that for you too. Happy motoring fella I bet she will run sweet after a re-map!!
