Octavia sound upgrade

Featured Replies

Hi, I'm thinking about upgrading the stereo on my Octavia Elegance, and I'm wondering what you guys have done. I have a symphony stock system. The bass will be taken care of by an Infinity Basslink. I still have no idea what to replace the rest of the speakers with. I won't go with a different head unit, but would consider an amp if it increases quality. What I want is high quality sound, but it doesn't need to be loud.

Best do a search on ICE stuff m8, there have been plenty of threads on the subject, usually being long ones too.

Cheers

There have been quite a few discussions on speaker choice and considerations,

so a search of the forums should give you some info.

As for using an amp - I'm not sure the Symphony has the necessary outputs to

support an amp. You might also find that even if you fitted an amp and improved

speakers, this would reveal weaknesses in the head unit's DAC. I'd say your

best upgrade path is speakers, head unit, amp, obviously stopping at whichever

stage you get a satisfactory sound from...

Hope this helps,

Rob.

With the addition of adapter cables, the symphony will output a pure source output.

It will also allow inputs, and a sub level feed.

I'm building a system around it as I want it to appear stock, but then I like a challenge, I've built *very* large systems before (for competition use, not McDonalds!) and it's pretty easy, so I'm trying to make it difficult for me this time (ie standard locations, head unit, no boot full of subs etc).

Bluespot Audio are probably your best bet for the cables, tho they won't guarantee they will work with our units, as they are a Blaupunkt \ Grundig mix of parts.

I'll let you know in a fortnight or so when I have tested the cables.

hey, tavia 4x4!!..was wondering if you ever got this project finished?..just reading the link and intrigued to know if the standard mk octy header works well with what you suggested! :-)

I have upgraded mine to Pioneer 77MP3 Head unit with JBL75.4 - 4 channel amp,JBL 12" GT3 Sub, Infinity 6010cs Component Front Speakers and the sound is 1000% (not exagerating this) better!!

Change the lot if you can!

:Dhiya there thanks for the reply....can i just put forward my line of thinking and see what you guys think....

i am wanting to get a decent sound in the octavia....BUt i dont want to change the headunit because i think it looks tidier with the standard uniform look..and,primarily..i think if the standard unit is left in,its much less of an enticement for any potential thief etc who might see the tape player and walk on by... do you see my logic? lol, hope so!..

so i wonder does anyone have a technical spec for the hu in the octavia so i can compare it to some of the current alternative ones and see if it comes in way off the mark for quality or its possible to keep it and just change the speakers for something little better :-) :-)
