Octavia 2000..?

Featured Replies

Hey all,

I'm glad I found this forum.. I'm just about to take delivery of my second hand Skoda Octavia 2000. It's the 20V Turbo model, and when I took it for a test drive I fell in love with it.

I have a couple of questions about the car..

Where can I find a brochure for this model..? I've seen some on ebay, but I live in the Middle East and getting stuff shipped here is a big ripoff. Secondly, I'm cheap.

Another question I had was to ask how to find out which Octavia it is..? Is it the Elegance, Ambience, whatever..? It has disc brakes all around, and is the 2.0V Turbo, so I'm thinking it must be the Elegance or Laurence and Klement.

Can anyone help..?

Sam

Only guessing, but here with the 2000 model year, the only 20V Turbo's I saw came in the trim level "SLX". Mine's same year, but a bit lower down, performance wise "GLX". The Ambiente/Elegance/L & K trim level names didn't come in till the 2001/2002 model year.....IIRC....

Brochure? What exactly are you wanting to find out? We're all a terribly accomodating bunch round here........

I was looking for the brocure to get some idea of what the car offers. You know, ABS, airbags, rim sizes, tyre sizes... that sort of thing.

So if it's a 2000 model, it should be a SLX/GLX..? Google can't find me any information on this except in other languages..

I took it for a test drive and nearly had a heart attack when I slammed on the gas. Honestly, I thought I was going to fly home from the dealer. Gave it a once quick over before handing it back in. It's gone to the workshop to have a windshield wiper and rear window fixed, and it's all mine..!!!

It has disc brakes on all wheels, and I'd like to know what other surprises it has..

Sam

Sam, if the car doesn't come with a Service Schedule booklet which will have a vehicle data sticker inside the front cover, have a look for an identical sticker stuck to the boot floor near the spare wheel. That sticker has the vehicle VIN (which is also visible through the windscree), model description which will include 3 letters denoting trim (eg ELE = Elegance), gearbox code (eg FEX for 4X4 5-speed), engine output (likely to be 110KW (150bhp)), and engine code (eg ARX for 4X4 150bhp turbo). There will also be a long list of optional equipment 3 digit codes, some of which you can decode by looking here.

Did I remember to say welcome to Briskoda?

PS Are you in Saudi or one of the Gulf Emirates?

Hey,

Thanks for the welcome. I'm really looking forward to picking up the car. Ever since I saw it, and for the price it was offered, I knew I had to have it.

I did go over the standard used car test proceedure, checked the gearbox, engine etc, but didnt get a chance to go over all the options in the car.

Has anyone installed an intercooler in their car. I don't think there is any space, but would like to know if it is possible..

I'm in Dubai..

Welcome to Briskoda, Sam

The 20V turbo engine already has an intercooler, but it isn't very big. If you stand facing the front of the car, it's mounted below the headlamp on your left-hand side (i.e. the car's right-hand side). This diagram shows the location of the intercooler relative to the engine.

Some of the members here have installed larger front-mounted intercoolers - search the site for "FMIC"

There is also an ongoing Briskoda group buy for a front mount intercooler (FMIC) here.
