I'm looking to buy a product to diagnose faults, and interpret ECMs on my Octavia TDi. I've worked all my life in the motor trade, but not much specifically on modern VAG cars, so I'd say I'm fairly competent at what I'm doing, and not a complete novice.

I've looked on the vagproducts website and quite like the look of the 'V Checker' for £74.99, and would like to know if it's any good. Or would it be better to buy VAGCOM software for the PC, and if so where from and how much. There's no point in me spending an absolute fortune because it'll only be for my own car, and possibly my Dad's Fabia, but not used commercially. However, it would be nice to be able to do all the things the dealer can do.

I managed to get one of these Sealey ex demo for under £100.

Sounds like the sort of thing you've been looking at. Does everything i need it to do (reset oil/service lights, read/delete codes, run emissions readiness checks etc), and is simple and reliable.

I dont have a laptop so the VAGCOM software was a bit impractical for me.

www.vagproduct.com will probably be cheaper than www.vagproducts.co.uk but you have to wait up to 14 days delivery.

another good uk supplier is www.talktomycar.co.uk and have a good range of cheap handheld no pc required vag compatable units.

If you buy a cheap vag cable and use the shareware vag-com software you probably wont access any more information than one of the forementioned handheld units.

Hi guys, bit of a noob question here - my throttle body needs cleaning (thanks to the excellent information around here), but I don't have a PC laptop so can't get VAGCOM software. Will the V-Checker Pro be able to realign the TB?
