low oil!

Featured Replies

Just decided the other day to check the oil, when I did it was on the hatched are so seemed comfortable until i could check it when flat (the drive slopes slightly so the cars front is lower.)

Just checked it this evening in a car park and the oil level is at its min, nearly had a coronory when I saw this, eveythings been fine, no extra nosies/smoke and performance is strong, no leaks on drive i think.

It was serviced in may @90k and now on 95k Ive had a carbonio CAI and forge DV fitted since then too.

Should I just get some oil from Halfords in the morning? I looked in tesco earlier but they did not have mine, (0w30 fully synth quantum synta ED according to my service sheet.)

or book an oil and filter change with national, works out at £33 with Castrol Edge 0W30 Full Synthetic?

Lastly have I done any damage to the engine!?

No damage probably. But it's better to be safe than sorry and yes you should change oil and filter. Tho, 0w30 seems like an overkill...

If it's around or above the minimum mark you're fine IMHO.

Most Esso and Shell garages and halfords etc will sell the correct VW rated oil.

If you're not sure which yours uses look for VW504 (petrol) or VW 507 (derv) as that is a standard that can be used in all previous engines, and won't cause any issues for a top up.

It's usually 5w30 as opposed to the previous 0w-30 standard, and costs around the £12-15 for a 1L top up pack.

Quantum oil would only be available from a VAG outlet, its their brand of oil.

Castrol recommend 5w30 fully synth for the vrs.
