VRS - Service indicator on after 9 months?

Featured Replies

Hi; I've noticed on startup recently that my service indicator has come up ahead of schedule.

The car was given a full 40,000 mile service at around 38,000 miles, with cam belts changed as well, back in October/November 2007.

It's been run on a fixed service interval, every 10,000 miles (or every 12 months), by the previous owner as well as me - I picked it up with 34k on the clock in Feb 2007, and it's only done 48,500 to date, mostly long journeys.

Anyway, two conflicting opinions - All Electric reckon it needs a full service  but Midland VW (who did the service and cam belt change in the first place) think that the light's just 'pinged on', and have offered to reset it.

So - do we reckon it needs a service? It's running fine, no idle problems, no smoke, oil levels are okay. I do drive it hard (like it's meant to be driven :D) but generally only when warm, and give it a chance to cool down too.

Anyone know if it's a VAG thing?

All thoughts gratefully received...

You have already answered the question. Car serviced at about 38,000 miles, on fixed service of 10,000 miles or 1 year, car has now done 48,500 miles, due a service mate.:)

my service indicator has just come on 12 months exactly after last service. The garage tell me its on variable it just needs servicing again? anyone got any advice as i think 12 months exactly on variable (and 7000 miles only) seems a little quick?

Maybe i should reset the indicator, but i dont know how? advice please?

If you`re only doing short trips, the service indicator will come on a lot sooner than if you were doing long motorway journeys.

If you are doing long journeys then i don`t know....

It looks as if you've been put on fixed again rather than variable.

I would be wanting confirmation of which oil was used at the last service. If it was longlife oil then they haven't set the service indicator properly.

Hopefully if you've paid for the more expensive oil then the garage that did the work should get it sorted for you.
