BP ultimate with Fabia VRS

Featured Replies

I'm pretty unimpressed with the performance gains with this fuel.

I managed about 0.1 miles on a full tank.

It was BP Ultimate Unleaded though.

This comes only a few days after a Skoda dealer told me to fill up their HTP-engined courtesy car with diesel. I was very pleased with myself for noticing in time.

I tried BP Ultimate Diesel with fabia Vrs and a Polo. With both fuel consumption INCREASED 10%, and performance was no different. It is pi$$.

get some power pluss from Classic car restoration, kit cars and motorcycle restoration tools and equipment - Frost Auto its called Millers Oils Additives: Diesel Power Sport 4 (500ml). put 2 Millers Oils Power Sport 4 increases power and mpg, reduces emissions and cleans injectors and piston crowns, giving easier starting, quieter and smoother running. Increases Cetane by up to 4 numbers. Each bottle treats 10 tanks of fuel and is suitable for all diesel engines, its about £10 its good stuff

Same idea for fuel additives. AVOID. If it really needs a clean the flush it properly... not with additives

Car is back, good as new now.

Overall, I cannot recommend BP Ultimate Unleaded for use in the Skoda Fabia VRS. :(

I'll stick to diesel and 505.01 from now on, hopefully. ;)

Strangely I get less mileage from a tank of normal diesel with Millers than I did with BP Ultimate Diesel, about 10 - 20 miles less per tank.

Have used BP Ultimate Diesel constantly since 2005, then earlier this year tried some Shell V Power, and more recently due to time constraints and availability a few tankfulls of Sainsburys City Diesel stuff (now with shiny black nozzles instead of the dirty Yellow ones!). Gone back to BP Ultimate diesel over the last 3 weeks though.

To be honest I've seen absolutely no difference in either fuel consumption or performance between the three, and each of the fuels still chuck out diesel fog on the twice weekly (or more) Italian tune ups. Trips are usually several hundered miles mostly motorway and in between a few short traffic clogged commutes.

The only noticeable difference I've observed is that on the Sainsbury stuff it rattles like a hot secretary's stillettos on a steel floorplate, the Shell V power less so but the BP Ultimate is smoothest and quietest diesel thrum of all. I guess there may be something in the claim that BP Ultimate diesel has a higher Cetane rating, as this is what inhibits knock in diesel fuel, bit like pinking and the low/high octane petrols.

Whether the 'hydrocarbon' soundproofing is worth the extra 10p+ per litre or not is a matter of personal choice and pocket depth, but I thought the comparisons was interesting.

I hated the BP Ultimate, I certainly never gained any performance from it, used the stuff for a few months just to give it a good try. But still nothing exciting. Ultimate is a little beter MPG though.

I stick with V-power all the time now. (well except when it was over 140p a ltr in my local shell garage) Now the price is a little better (126p/ltr) I am back on it. these lovely cold mornings are certainly a gain too.

Sotty smoke problems certainly get worse the cheaper (low grade supermarket diesel) the seller is. normal diesel from any of the supermarkets does seem to make my VRS smoke like a chimney. big phat clouds of the stuff. However the V-Power is a lot better.

really all depends on the type of driving you are doing...

I am on 600miles a week 90% motorways (M25) so lower revs most of the time. (6th gear 2000 revs around 65-70mph) but obviously when I push it faster the acceleration is there. with the standard diesel from anywhere there is not so much power at that rev range and loads more sooty muck in the car behinds radiator.

Sometimes on the roads though a cheaper fuel is much desired when you have the prat that wants to actually sit so close to your bumper you can't even see his bonnet. I dorp the speed in 6th gear so that I am running at 1900 revs then floor the VRS, because of the major incrase in fuel and not enough get up and go the soot cloud behind is huge and just fills the blokes radiator, engine intake, and ultimately it does leak into the cabin of his car. Plus it does give the desired effect that your car has blown up and they poo thier pants.

Shell V-power all the way for me NO EXTRA ADDITIVES. No way...
