Re-filling 0,5l coolling fluid after 3000 km :-(

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,

I have had to re-fill the cooling fluid on my 2001 MPI after only 3000 km :-(

It was around minimum when I picked it up from the dealership 6 months ago, and the car-savvy people I haid bought along said that it did not matter...

Total it has probably used around half a liter, primarily on trips less than 10km. Total mileage is just more than 100.000km and it should have plenty of life in it left :-)

I know that at worst it might be the head gasket, but are there any easy things I can check for myself, before taking it to the dealership? I have had no other irregularities with it.

Well, losing coolant is not good. I suggest you check your oil cap, if it has some kind of white sticky stuff under it. Also, do the same with oil rod: check the rod and see if the oil looks normal or not. If it looks like something that shouldn't be there, then it's bad news for you, I guess.

Check the fan switch on the radiator just above the bottom hose, they commonly weep coolant.
