My Clio actually went down. :D That's 54 plate....

Can we have a petition to support the banning of petitions please?

I know it won't change anything, because not one of them ever has done, but at least it might make me feel better.

i hope this affects the governments thoughts cos i hate the fact that all the costs of motoring are escalating.. they seem to increase fuel prices quite regularly and now this too

I'm glad your paying attention.

Google "Credit Crunch" ;)

I just checked and mine's going up next year to $211.84 - about 80 quid.

i hate how much we pay for fuel as i was in saudi arabia a while back, and was in a taxi and when he fuelled up he was paying around 0.80 halala's which was less than 15p!! so now that i saw this i was even more p***** off cos first they hike the price of fuel and now this too

Is your road tax not very low Gangsta? I see you have a 1.2, are they not in the £35 bracket? I’m guessing not.

erm... i dont know cos i didnt pay for it my dad did but even though mine is cheap wont be the same for the vrs owners and others on here with bigger cars so i thought id make briskodians aware of this

2001 and later? Not an issue for me then :D

come on even if it doesnt affect u now it may do later when u buy a newer car or even if the boys at 10 downing street decide to hike prices for pre 2001 cars aswell so plz do sign the petition

I think Road tax is the least of our worries if the new Road Tolls strategy is to be believed. Every car in Britain will be monitored during it’s driving. They want to push this through in the next few years. I am a high mileage driver and it will cost me a fortune, especially as I live inside the M60

well i think if enough people oppose this then the government will think differently as this is less severe than the road tolls u are talking about and if this has a negative feedback then they could think and realise they could lose votes as a result of these changes

Unfortunately I have to agree with andy2407. Not one of these petitions has changed a single thing. The one which they made the most effort in responding to was the "make Jeremy Clarkson PM" one which received a youtube video response. All others have either been no response, or some ****** like the government recognises this and that and this and the other, however, this tax is needed due to environmental issues to promote the use of greener vehicles and whatever other crap they spout out. The petition will change nothing.

If the road pricing thing does get off the ground, the data from that will then be used to fine people for speeding and other traffic infractions. I can guarantee you 100%. Strange thing is the technology has already been developed to actually *prevent* speeding based on GPS data and could easily be integrated into any black box the Government will propose to use for road charging. The technology has been extensively tested by The University of Leeds Institute for Transport Studies, and funded by the Government.

So on the one hand the Government could spend a little extra money on the black boxes and *prevent* people speeding, which if the Government is right would reduce accidents and strain on the NHS saving money and making accidents due to going over the speed limit impossible - and they would also be taking advantage of the investments they have made in research on the devices. On the other hand they can monitor your movements and calculate your speed wherever you are without a camera and drop you fines in the post. Which option do you think they will go for? It *will* happen and will only go to prove the Government is more interested in making money out of speeding than actually stopping it.

Who said we live in a country running with a pure democratic political system? WHen's the last time there was a referendum?

well all we can do is sign petitions and hope they will solve the problem as we cant really do much else...hope they lisn to this petition

My road fund tax goes down next year as does nearly half the country....so where's the petition to keep it as it is

As Fifth Gear pointed out...it would be Cheaper for me to tax a pre 2001 Ferrari than our Nissan. In fact it would cost half.

Yes,it really is a Green Tax isn't it.

Bunch of idiotic lentil munching policy makers.

But you would have paid considerably more VAT on the ferrari than on the Nissan, so the Government still ends up with loads of money :D

Not if it was a second hand private purchase;)

Anyway.its another argument for the tax to be on petrol.Thirsty cars paying the price.

Sad really. It is getting to the stage of the demise of the motor car and people seemed really chuffed that we are all going to be driving diesels or 1.2 petrols.

Car industry....soon to be dead(apart from underpowered cars and tractors)

So those of you who dont do anything about road tax hikes, will not complain when the government hike the tax again post 2010.

There's not really much point in complaining about the inevitable.

Unless this starts happening

PistonHeads Headlines

I get a bit bored of the holier than thou lot I must say (although not bored enough to set fire to all the 'look at my £35 tax disc' car owners vehicles)

Unless this starts happening

 Unfortunately the only effect I think that would have would be making people weigh up the savings in road tax against the cost of insurance for driving a firebomb target...
