thanks to all those who replied and hope u guys have signed the petition, even if it doesnt affect anything at least we know that we did what we could do to stop it so plz plz do sign it even if you believe that they dont get seen, as, if it is taken into consideration by the boys at number 10 then you will have made a difference

I have just signed this and forwarded the link to my friends and family too.

My mazda will cost £300 after April next year, a real gas guzzler apparently.

When there was the petition on road pricing it was in the news regularly and then there was a sudden change and the road pricing thing went away, maybe only temporarily admittedly, and i don't suppose it was solely due to the petition but anything and anyway we can voice or disapproval must be a good thing.

You don't recall the personal e-mail reply from Tony Blair to everyone who filled in that road pricing petition then? Fortunately MS Outlook seemed to pick up the e-mail as junk mail  The petition didn't change anything, despite millions of signatures. Road pricing is not ruled out.

In my post it does say "maybe only temporarily admittedly"

No government is ever going to come out in public and admit that any sort of petition has ever changed anything.

I believe that if god knows how many people had not have signed that petition we would be nearer to road pricing than we are today.

The problem with people in this country is that everyone moans about stuff but cannot actually be bothered to do anything or even try to do anything about it.

I also recall Mr Blair telling us all that Iraq had tonnes of WMD and that the dossier was not sexed up. Did you believe this too? ;)

Unfortunately a petition is little more than a moan IMO. It takes go-slow lorries bringing the nation to a halt to reduce fuel taxation. If only we Brits were more eager to take the French-style approach to protest

I will agree with you there.

It takes go-slow lorries bringing the nation to a halt to reduce fuel taxation.

Not especially effective though, given the current fuel prices...?

Of course, when it comes to the increasing cost of motoring, it could be that the majority of the populace would actually like to reduce car emissions through tax discentives, be that through green concerns or just plain old envy. In which case petitions aren't going to do anything...
